Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced legislation Monday that would create a tax credit aimed at helping working-class Americans overcome financial and economic barriers to start a family.
Hawley introduced legislation that would establish a Parent Tax Credit, a fully refundable tax credit provided through monthly advances. Hawley’s bill would create a $6,000 credit for single parents and $12,000 for married parents.

Not sexy enough subject. Chicago u just made it that! How about stable families having that 3rd kid?
How about zero income tax on the first 30k income for an individual, the first 3 million on a business, and 12% on every dollar after that. That would work out to o income tax on a $60000 family income, assuming two wage earners.
Doing so would mean about 90% of the IRS could be let go because the taxes would be so simple. Tax lawyers would need to learn to code.
If we expect to win any more elections our tax policies are going to have to raise the eyebrows of the voters like Prop 13(Calif. 1978). Get rid of the income tax. Go fair tax. Let all workers get 100% of their paycheck. Exclude taxes on ROTH IRA’S. Start em young.
There’s more. There will be no benefit for any tax cuts as long as the government continues to grow. Who is going to start with spending?
We already have child tax credits. Same thing. Have kids, get tax credit.
Better idea. Tax credit for married couples only. Maybe it would help a little with the fatherless kid issue.
More welfare for having kids. Hasn’t the last 60 years of the welfare state taught us that paying people to have kids leads to more single mothers and the destruction of the nuclear family?
Getting into a voter bribery bidding war with Democrats is a no-win proposition for our nation.
People need to be encouraged to save for their futures.
Government needs to stop meddling in the economy.
It’s your job to pay for your kiddies. Save up money to cover the last few months of pregnancy and the first year of the baby’s life.
Daddy’s weekly/bi-weekly income should normally be enough or nearly enough cover all fixed expenses.
If mommy & daddy normally make a combined $60,000/year, put $6,000/year aside for a few years so a new baby doesn’t bust the family finances.
How about a payout each month to those of us who are of retirement age because social security just isn’t enough. Sarc off :)
Paid for how?
Sorry, that does not work for me. I do not want any tax policy that used to change behavior or benefit one class of people over another. Everyone needs to pay and feel the sting of taxes. Maybe then more people will start recognizing what taxes are spent on and realize they don’t need all this government.
3rd kid born to a male husband and female wife
Since when does keeping more of my money “need to be paid for”?
Because in about half these cases, through existing deductions and tax credits, the people in question pay no income taxes to begin with. Want to make it a deduction then fine, that's a case of people keeping their tax dollars. Make it a tax credit and they get it regardless, and that needs to be paid for.
Look for a run on unwed births!
HIGHLY discriminative against adults who have NO KIDS..
