The federal government will no longer fine illegal aliens who fail to depart from the U.S. and it plans to pursue the cancellation of any currently outstanding debts for people who previously incurred such financial penalties.
"There is no indication that these penalties promoted compliance with noncitizens' departure obligations," Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement. "We can enforce our immigration laws without resorting to ineffective and unnecessary punitive measures."
While U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had already stopped issuing such fines as of Jan. 20, 2021 — the day that President Biden was sworn into office — two delegation orders pertaining to the collection of the fines were rescinded on Friday, according to a Department of Homeland Security press release.
"Although ICE has had the authority to assess financial penalties to individuals for failing to depart for more than 20 years, the agency did not initiate enforcement of these penalties until 2018. As of January 20, 2021, ICE ceased issuing these fines. This formalizes the Biden Administration's change in direction," the press release noted.
"After reviewing detailed data regarding the issuance of such fines since 2018, it was clear to Secretary Mayorkas and Acting ICE Director Tae Johnson that the fines were not effective and had not meaningfully advanced the interests of the agency. ICE intends to work with the Department of Treasury to cancel the existing debts of those who had been fined," the press release also said.

So if a penalty/punishment for violating a law is not working as well as hoped, that means we just delete the penalty for violating a law?????

Laws mean nothing now. If the government is free to ignore laws and/or make new law on the fly without the legislature, then there is no law.
But if you were illegally in the Capitol building, they will hold you until trial.....

Twenty years ago, I thought about what the eventual outcome of the destruction of Proposition 187 and its effect on American laws.
Knowing the character of Hispanic culture, I concluded that they would push enough people into the country to seize political power, and that traitors (um, “Democrats”) would aid them in doing so, since it would enhance their political power.
But what would they do then?
The answer was, and is...they would set about to destroy and upend the laws that offended them: the very laws that make the United States a nation.
No nation allows foreigners to simply walk in and take up residence by force. This means another nation is invading yours and plans to rule you eventually.
And Mayorkas - the fake Spaniard - is the agent of exactly that.
An “immigrant” in charge of the overall internal security of the United States? What, not enough of us 14th generation people around? Oddly I can provide a phone book of people who fit the bill. They’re my relatives.
But no, in the inverted world of the Traitor party, a man whose entire life has been one of relentless deconstruction of the country he found himself in by no good agency of his own, tirelessly works to chisel open the gates of the city to allow his people - the Barbarians - to flood in and ultimately slit the throats of the people he was expected to defend.
He absolves all foreigners of any wrongdoing while ruthlessly attacking the citizenry with accusations of “extremism” and “insurrection” while using the terms “we” and “our” when he couldn’t be more alien to us.
Immigration - legal and illegal - is the only issue. If the “we” changes from the people whose ancestors started and sustained the country, then the country is gone.
And that’s exactly what the desperate wannabe Caudillo Sr. Mayorkas wants.

A State employee lost her job for doing that. I remember seeing her hounded by a “Community Leader” as she walked through the courthouse (is that even legal?). The “Community Leader” was later accused of rape (ugliest guy you ever saw so it had to be rape unless his victim was blind). He got off on an assault charge because he was buddies with the Indian? DA. Pathetic local media reluctantly downgraded him from “Community Leader” to “Community Activist”.
Yup. That’s his plan.
