How else would I buy people’s thoughts?
You can’t buy anything for less than 50 cents anyway. What I hate is that anything you buy is rounded down by 1¢, so that any time you use cash to buy anything you end up with a pocked full of pennies you never spend.
Speaking of bad pennies, I personally have no used for them. I've been saving every wheat back for decades and have jars full of them, but rarely ever come across on anymore. Get rid of the debased things.
Speaking of debased, the GOP should kick mittens out.
What would be the cost of removing a slave-owner’s profile from the nickle?

Keep the penny. Just bring back penny candy!
Getting rid of the penny is a de facto admission that your currency is losing value. We see it anyway, but the enemedia pretends there is no inflation while Dems are in power.
Before the euro, the national currencies like the Italian lira and Spanish peseta had already eliminated their fractional denominations (centimos/centisimos) - never mind pennies; their nickels, dimes, quarters, and halves had become worthless.
When I was stationed at Incirlik AB in the late 80’s, the only place on base that used pennies was the Post Office, because they had to. Everywhere else showed the price to the penny, but but rounded to the nickel. It seemed to work fine there.

If you can get 100 million people to give you their worthless penny, you’d be a millionaire.
I’ve been for elimination of the penny for 20 or 25 years at this point on the basis they are an impediment to commerce, not worth the time spent dealing with them.
Good-bye 6 cents local sales tax, hello 10 cents (you don’t really think the gov would round down, do you). Keep the penny.
This is insanity. How is a college kid going to be able to penny his neighbor’s dorm room door shut if there are no pennies?
In 1983 the US Mint began making pennies that were copper clad zinc. If the copper was worn and a child swallowed the penny, the zinc caused heavy metal poisoning. I first encountered this in 1984 when a Boston Terrier was presented with anemia, liver failure, and severe G.I. distress only to find out it was heavy metal poisoning due to a penny. I surgically removed the penny but the dog was in such advanced stage it died shortly thereafter.
On the other hand, can you imagine the morons that can't make change at various businesses trying to round to the nearest five cents?
“Even during my childhood in the 1980s, there was a candy store not far from our house that sold “penny candy” in jars — one penny for a mini Tootsie Roll, or two for a Mary Jane.”
Forget the penny candy, dope must have really cheap where he lived.
Yes please get rid of them.
Canada and Australia dropped the penny with no increase in prices.
"What?"
I purchase just about everything but a haircut with a visa card. It easily takes care of transactions requiring odd cents.
We have an old milk bottle that was the depository for change, mostly pennies. The bottle sits there now with almost no pennies.
the fact of the matter is that for many, all change is obsolete.
