Taking a knee, raising a fist to be punished at Tokyo Games-IOC

Taking a knee during the Tokyo Olympics or lifting a fist in support of racial equality will be punished as the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday maintained its ban on athletes' protests inside stadiums, at ceremonies and on podiums.

The IOC's Rule 50 forbids any kind of "demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda" in venues and any other Olympic area and the Games body concluded the rule should be maintained following an athlete consultation.

Against the backdrop of the Black Lives Matter movement protesting racial injustice, calls have increased in recent months for a change to that rule that would allow athletes to protest.

Some international federation chiefs, including World Athletics' President Sebastian Coe, have said that athletes should have the right to make gestures of political protest during the Games.

The IOC's Athletes' Commission chief Kirsty Coventry, who led a review of the rule, said the majority of athletes consulted were against any protests within the fields of play or the podiums.

The United States lesbian women’s soccer team wants to know if that goes for hotel rooms also.

They’ll do it anyway. They have no respect for rules. Any bets that there’ll be a lot of political crap infecting the Olympics?

I’ll stick with Roller Derby, the last honest sport, if I could only find it of DirectTV.

Rayciiis!

Would anyone be surprised if there will be idiots who will kneel during the medal ceremony? Trying to stir up a controversy so that they can come on the news shows were moronic reporters will slobber all over them like they are heroes.

The last Olympics I paid any real attention to happened in 1984. Not that I am typical.

Their popularity continues to fall. The last games to make a profit was SLC. Rather beating a dead horse at this point.

Assuming they aren’t canceled due to the kungflu.

They can’t even get cities in modern countries to even bid on the Olympics anymore. That’s why they’re all being held in communist countries and third world dumps these days.

You know why

Its generally not that great, the aftermath, of all that was done for the olympics. You get these areas that become more or less weaker/dead zones.

Don’t do it...OR ELSE WHAT?
Is what everyone wants to know.
Punishment better not just be a ‘Curt & Pointed’ letter of disappointment in the Player’s personal files, or The Beat will go on, more loudly than ever before.

From what I’ve heard, the exorbitant security costs are chasing a lot of cities away. These weren’t a big issue until after 9/11.

Universities should disclose whether their sports teams will kneel so fans can decide to purchase tickets or not.

Good point.

May have overtaken the fact you end up with a high percentage of buildings and stuff that wont be used afterwards. Plus cost overruns, often made many places come out big fiscal losers.

So they don’t want to hear how much black athletes hate America for having police or something?

They’ll still do it and if the Olympic committee does anything it will be called racist.

I suspect you're right. And there won't be any punishment for those who do.

Los Angeles is probably the only place in the U.S. that’s even suitable for the Olympics anymore. With a bunch of NCAA Division I schools in the area and almost a dozen major league professional sports teams, it’s the only metro area that already has just about every sports venue you’d need.
