People living with HIV in Canada had eight times the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other non-AIDS-related dementia as their HIV-negative counterparts, and they were diagnosed 12.5 years earlier, according to an analysis published in BMJ Open. They also had higher rates of several other age-related chronic conditions.
That rates of age-related illnesses were higher among people living with HIV wasn’t a surprise, as that’s been seen in other studies. Antiretroviral treatment has been associated with kidney damage and cardiovascular disease, and viral hepatitis and alcohol use—both common among HIV-positive people—can cause liver disease.

Imagine what those long-term HIV drugs must do to one’s brain. It can’t be good.

Also, since these folks are getting so much medical care, how about the side effects of all the drugs they are getting?
Dementia leads to HIV. Those with dementia don’t know why their butthole hurts so much.

I have known several injection drug users. They all smoked and drank larger quantities than normal smokers and drinkers. Injection drug users are high risk takers, which might explain the HIV exposure. Also, as an aside, they were all depressed and inward focused. As a boss, I learned you can’t depend on someone who has issues like these. I tried several times to get these problem people fired but never once succeeded.
I know one old gay fellow in his seventies who hangs out at a hotel bar. All his friends died years ago and he is the only one left of his group. Rather sad actually. But he must have been the careful one.
And therein lies the error in this comparison. I suspect that the researchers compared "people living with HIV" to the rest of the population. Had they truly compared "people living with HIV" to "their HIV-negative counterparts", the difference would have been much smaller. I suspect their actual HIV-negative counterparts, predominantly drug addicts and homosexuals, tend not to live as healthy a lifestyle as the rest of the population on average. If the control group were HIV-negative drug addicts and homosexuals, there may be no difference in the prevalence of these medical conditionals at all. In fact, the "people living with HIV" might even be receiving better medical treatment and be healthier than their actual HIV-negative counterparts.

Cop could have gotten HIV during a bloody arrest of HIV pos. PerP..or stuck with HIV needle during arrest of HIV pos drug addict lying on the street. It is a well recognized work related risk.
Let’s see a social worker take those risks.
