Big changes afoot in the marijuana market, in major producer Mexico.

It looks like many business plans for legal marijuana production in this country could be at risk.

If the Biden Administration changes the status of Marijuana (from a Schedule 1 Drug), and Mexico legalizes, they may once again be the low cost producer (for the high end varieties as well).

It can be grown anywhere, so they don’t have a monopoly.

***with poppy, from which they extract opium gum***

I have read, years ago, that there was an attempt to grow Opium in Kansas in the late 1800s.

It was so labor intensive the project was given up.

Cannabis is just an herb that can be grown almost anywhere. Its “illegality” was the only thing that made it “valuable”. And no sympathy from me for the weed farmers in Mexico, or the filthy rotten cartels that employ them.

The narcoterrorists in Mexico still have lucrative returns in political power, kidnapping, shakedowns, and human trafficking.

Freaking dirt weed from Mexico. They’ve been commoditized. Nobody wants that garbage anymore if they have a choice and sneaking bulk goods over the border is riskier. They’ve got to move up market to survive, the high end sinsemilla is where the market is at these days.

I guess we are expected to feel sorry for dope growers.

No thanks.

I accept that it can be grown anywhere, but why do some places have a reputation for producing high quality marijuana?

LOL. That’s hilarious. You go into a supermarket, and it’s hard to find vegetables that aren’t from Mexico.

But the cartels don't mind.

It's easier to move their muscle here than the product.

The protection racket is alive and well in America.

Now that’s not very sympathetic of you.....they are just poor farmers trying to earn a living to support their family with10 kids and grandma😎. And it’s not dope....it’s a pain relieving plant that also allows you to see Lawrence welk by playing a beach boys record backwards😁

Could happen - but American growers will retain the technological edge. My SIL does IT for a legal grower, and the operation he describes sounds out of Mexico's reach.

In the last five years, the price has fallen by half

No surprise - five years ago, U.S. state legalization was ramping up.

I have argued for years to decriminalize weed and stick it to the cartels.

Maris is an idiot anyway. Who the hell survives on 40 kilos per season?

She gets maybe 2K per year which I guess is big deal since the average wage in Mexico is about 9,700 annually

Isn’t the reason it is called “weed” because it grows so easily?
