... However, [Premier] Horgan said people should not travel even within their health authority if it means booking accommodation in another community. For example, Vancouver and Whistler are in the same health authority but Horgan said no one should be travelling there and booking accommodation for a getaway...

“This will be conducted through random audits, not unlike roadside checks or CounterAttack during the Christmas season,” Horgan explained.

“They will be susceptible to all travellers, not just some travellers, and again, they will be random and there will be a fine if you are travelling outside your area without a legitimate reason.” ...

He said the police will be given no additional powers, but there will be random “audits” to catch those who are “blatantly disregarding the rules.”

“Everybody will be asked where they’re going and where they came from,” Horgan added...

At the end of this week, BC Ferries will stop bookings for anyone with RVs or campers and will contact people who have booked to make sure their travel is essential....

Horgan said signs will also be posted along the Alberta border, reminding anyone driving into B.C. that it should only be for essential travel....

Chilling, with shades of "Deine Papieren, bitte", even if it is "only" until May 24th

Remember years ago, watching futuristic movies about totalitarian governments that had taken over North America, we would say, "Yeah but that could never happen in real life, because the people here would never put up with the restrictions on our freedoms" ?

Well guess what ...

No problem. DHS/TSA could do it here on Federal Highways. Kind of a wider version of ‘taking us behind the gym’.

I could imagine this for Ebola with a 90% death rate, or even the Black Plague (25-50% death rate) but Covid is a pathetic imitation of a killer pandemic.

If there was a _real_ plague would they shoot on sight anyone who dared drive on the road?

Locally some Colorado counties put up road blocks to prevent outsiders (they claimed Texans) from traveling to the ski resorts.

Unfortunately, History has shown that a lot of supposedly "temporary" Government measures have a tendency to stick around forever

Income taxes were only supposed to be a "temporary" thing to help pay for WWI ...

Governments are beging people to overthrow them.

Someday again, they will be taken up on this, and it will be a hard day, but a good day.

I think life would be much simpler for British Columbia pols if they would just go hang out with our Florida Governor for a few days.

I hope they do as I want to drive across the northeast corner of BC this summer.

But Lindsey Graham and the GOP would put a stop to this if this started down here. Sure.

Case fatality ratio in the U.S. is around 1.8%. But in reality, it’s lower than that because a lot of cases are undiagnosed. So most likely around 0.5%.
