The Question Biden Won't Answer
National Review ^ | April 17, 2021 | Matthew Continetti

Posted on 04/17/2021 8:56:57 AM PDT by Jim Noble

It’s not just generals who are always prepared to fight the last war. President Biden’s April 14 announcement that U.S. forces will leave Afghanistan before the 20th anniversary of 9/11 has a long and complicated backstory. Biden said his decision will allow America to put this violent and ambiguous past behind it, to retire the frameworks that conditioned its foreign policy for a generation, and to focus its energies on the competition with China.

Perhaps so. The risk, however, is that Biden’s fixation on settling old scores has blinded him to contemporary realities, and has prevented him from answering the question that will determine the future of both Afghan and U.S. security: Will the democratically elected government of Afghanistan survive American withdrawal?...

They’ve been spilling blood for generations, usually over tribal disputes. Let them spill blood for democracy.

If they wanted Democracy they could have had it generations ago.

Will the democratically elected government of Afghanistan survive American withdrawal?

Good point. I guess we'd better spend a lot more American lives to make sure we never find out. /s

Before our invasion, Iraq had 1.4 million Christians, At last count, under National Review’s “better” form of government there were less than 250,000. Why is that a win? Does GWB ever think of the hardship of Christians when we is painting his pictures and putting out statements criticizing Trump? Do National Review and GWB have no shame?

The National Review is filled with garbage these days. I won't write about how the author begins his article with a untrue proposition that forms part of the basis of a logical syllogism. Since the premise is incorrect, the conclusion likely wrong.

The remainder of the article is abject drivel, based on establishment doctrine that partially rings true some of the time. But that is the danger of establishment thinking. It takes independent critical thinking, devoid of establishment indoctrination, to recognize the tripe being written.

We need to do a complete rewind and undoing what W and the establishment started in 2001. Since then Americans have lost their lives, treasure, freedoms, liberties and privacy. Most of the threats of terrorism to America in the world still exist. Meanwhile, over the last 20 years, new threats have evolved. (Actually, you can replace 20 years with 30, 40, or 50.) Biden is not prepared to handle those threats. The establishment is not prepared. Lastly, the National Review has found itself repeatedly wanting. They are not prepared or capable of writing about it.

“Will the democratically elected government of Afghanistan survive American withdrawal?”

Of course not.

Adding to reasons we should have left years ago.

We don’t need an embassy there as we have no interests there.

The US politicians did not have the stomach to tell the US military what to do in Afghanistan to end the war with the weapons and ideas they already had (bulldozers and chemical agents).

I have to wonder if the US Military ever suggested the idea of bulldozers and chemical agents to US politicians. While I was not in the military 20 years ago, my first military thoughts for Afghanistan included carpet bombing (not bulldozers) and chemical agents. We could have been out of Afghanistan in three months, perhaps only revisiting when new poppy fields need to be salted. That is about as much attention that Afghanistan deserved. The War on Islam, not the "War on Terror", needed to waged elsewhere, beginning with Saudi Arabia and Iran. There are plenty of ways to fight that war, including options where America profits, instead of being a draw on our treasure and young soldiers' lives and limbs.

“America could never win that war because it was unwilling to even name the enemy much less fight it: Islam.”

It's much worse than that. We poured money into Afghanistan and they used that to have babies. When we invaded there were 20 million Muslims in Afghanistan. As we leave there are 40 million of them.

We are ending the war with 20 million more enemies than we had at the beginning.

Will the democratically elected government of Afghanistan survive American withdrawal?

I guess he can relegate this issue about surviving to Camelface, she doesn’t do anything anyways, which is exactly what Biden expects. I doubt if Biden himself will survive all that much longer, given his propensity for bungling.

Whoever this guy is, let him volunteer to go to Afghanistan, also known as Operation Provide Targets. Thanks to Bush’s Middle East useless wars, we now have thousands more Muslims in the US. They only attack us when we let them in.
