WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, 48, was charged with second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright. Wright, 20, was killed Sunday during a traffic stop.

If convicted, Potter faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

The news was broken by the Star Tribune, which is reporting that Potter will be represented by attorney Earl Gray.

Potter was charged by the Washington County Attorney's Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

yes, her and Derek Chauvin are in the crosshairs, but in many ways so are every cop in the country, especially those in big cities, they will not hesitate to charge a cop with the most severe crime possible...

Defunding the police is happening in slow motion

Might be a good idea to stop selling these gun-shaped ones at all and go for the more Star Trek TNG phase-esque style that's completely different. They make them already.

And I would argue that because of that ruling - crime stats, including MORE police shootings have increased.

Thugs today know they don’t have to comply.

Look at FBI stats. Our soft on crime policies have resulted in cities like Chicago, Minneapolis and Portland.

You all are wayyyy out over your skis. Mehserle did the exact same thing in 2014, even more on the nose since his perp Oscar Grant was in custody; and walked out of jail after serving 11 months of a 2-year term for involuntary manslaughter.

In California.

Mehserle testified and she will too.

We’re about to see a serious stand down by the police. I know I would.

I could never be a cop cause I’m too hot headed. But I wouldn’t blame them. Thing is they’re paid to make arrests, close cases, or bring in revenue.

If current ones won’t, they’ll find even worse replacements that will.

To me, it is pretty obvious that female cops generally (yeah like everything else there are exceptions which is why I say generally) present a greater risk of accidental shootings and unnecessary escalations of force. One reason for that is that they generally are at a greater risk of being physically overpowered by a violent criminal. Remember when cops’ first option for force was a billy club? A billy club won’t do much good for a lot of female cops. The escalation to shooting comes a lot faster. Well, I guess that is what society wants. (Put differently, bar bouncers aren’t allowed to shoot unruly patrons. Which is why you don’t see many tiny ones.) Ok, I realize posters will come out of the woodwork to tell of Broomhilda, their female friend or relative who could kick twenty guys’ butts at the same time. Whatever. My contention stands.

Is resisting arrest a cultural issue? <<

Yup... and its a right and an obligation to keep your street cred in that particular “culture”

If I were a cop there would be no more city revenue from BS traffic stops coming from me. I don’t know how any cops can bring themselves to do the work when they know that the whole political class will railroad them if anything out of the ordinary happens. At some point the hope of a future pension just aint worth the risk level.

Why? If you shot and killed somebody by accident, they’d prosecute you as well.

Why should incompetent LEO get a pass?

I said ‘dang’ more out of surprise, sorry I didn’t use another word. I didn’t realize before someone posted that this is basically how MN handles negligent homicide. Some places that’s a big of a lower crime than manslaughter.
