Illinois Democrats vs. Chicago
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 12, 2021 | The Editorial Board

Posted on 04/13/2021 9:30:46 PM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Most fights in one-party states are internecine. In Illinois, the Democrats who control Springfield have all but declared war on Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who is trying to prevent her city’s further decline.

The Chicago Teachers Union is threatening to walk out—again—over the school district’s plan to reopen high schools next week. “Critical sticking points include accommodations, high school schedules that minimize virus transmission, remote work—particularly since the majority of students will remain remote—and vaccines for high school students and their family members,” the union said Monday.

The union would rather not reopen at all this school year. And thanks to legislation signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the district can’t require it. The statute repeals part of an Illinois law that had restricted the teachers’ right to strike over subjects other than wages and benefits.

Now teachers can walk out over schedules, remote learning or even child-care subsidies. While the union fought reopening elementary and middle schools earlier this spring, teachers risked having their pay docked if they struck. Now if the district pushes to reopen high schools, the union can call a strike with impunity and shut down all schools.

“Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who is trying to prevent her city’s further decline.”

The Wall Street Journal editorial board is delusional.

No work, no pay.

The union finally achieved their dream scenario of no work, full pay. There is no way Chicago teachers return to school this year.

I am from Illinois, from a suburb south of Chicago. I left 46 years ago, because it was clear that the place was going to go to hell in a hand basket. That is exactly what I think of when I see Mayor Lightfoot’s face. The whole place is going to hell. The smart will bail out.

Too bad, so sad. I last visited Chicago in summer 2004. Organizers were campaigning for a guy named Nobama for the US Senate that November. The rest, as they say, is history. Americans in these places destroyed their country.

That was fast. Relatively speaking. Obama came from nowhere. Rest of it is history. For what it’s worth, Obama was our first Kenyan-American to become President. His ancestors were not enslaved slaves in the American South so he’s not an “African-American”. Just my .02 worth.

This is another state where the majority of voters are reaping the whirlwind.

If you want to make things better, you’ve got to stop voting for ‘Rat members of the state legislature. The ‘Rats have a 72-45 majority in the state House and a 41-18 majority in the state Senate. Illinois, if you want to start on the road to recovery, you’ve got to stop re-electing ‘Rats to your legislature.

last time I checked, Kenya was in Africa.

Obama had a fake birth certificate and was a closet Marxist. He also did the bidding of public enemies such as George Soros and Warren Buffett.

There's a big difference between Black Americans and recent African immigrants, if that makes sense.

African immigrants tend to be hard working and of course they are not part of the "ghetto" culture.

Per the article, Lightfoot “strongly opposed the bill” described. At least in that one instance, she is right.

Pritzker is a tool. Good God, IL was actually better off (not by a lot) under Pat Quinn.

SOMEONE needs to lead parents against the teachers union, but I have not the foggiest idea who could pull it off.

Why open the schools? Every day children are kept away from democrats, they become more literate
