According to reports, the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is mulling a strike this week over the city’s plans to reopen schools.
The Chicago Public School System (CPS) says that schools will reopen to in-person education by April 19, but the CTU still claims the coronavirus makes it too “dangerous” for teachers to return to the classroom, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Ugh. How I despise unions of all stripes, but especially Teacher’s Unions.
Even Mean-Girl Lori Lightfoot seems to be afraid of getting ‘too pushy’ with the Labor Unions. This has surprised me.
She has often issued ultimatums on when the teachers ‘better’ be back in the classrooms, only to chicken out and move the goal posts forward once again.
They have some advantage over her.
They have defined themselves as non-essential.
Time to stop their paychecks like happens to everybody else.
Get rid of the academies by making them one-year programs. Make all applicants major in ROTC for 4 years at universities at their own expense. Either that or force them to go to the military-centric colleges like VMI, A & M, The Citadel. Ethnic Studies majors cannot join as 90 day wonders.

Why work when you can pull a full salary for sitting home and doing nothing?

One thing that is eminently scalable is remote learning. One teacher + several assistants could teach hundreds,
IIRC, the mayor was involved with the teachers union before she was mayor.
Then that explains it.
The Sisterhood before all else.
Close all their grocery stores.
Close all their department stores.
Close all the female apparel stores.
Close all the restaurants and fast food places again.
They are too dangerous to work in.
See how that flies with them.
They had better be careful.
They are proving they are not essential workers.
Let them strike....fire them....and get new hires...that simple.
