Longtime Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings (D), the dean of the Florida congressional delegation, died Tuesday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, two leadership sources confirmed. He was 84.
Hastings started his career as a civil rights attorney and was nominated by former President Carter in 1979 as a federal judge in Florida. Nearly a decade later, he was impeached by the House for bribery and perjury, and convicted by the Senate, making him only the sixth federal judge in U.S. history to be ousted from office by the Senate. Hastings later made an unlikely political comeback in 1992, winning a seat in the same House of Representatives that impeached him years earlier.

He stands as a shining star and inspiration to all Democrat candidates who have some questionable episodes in their pasts. Pick the right district, and it becomes a lifetime sinecure.

‘Don’t speak ill of the dead’ is no doubt good advice, however when it comes to Alcee Hastings an exception is in order. While I won’t say I’m glad he’s dead, I am glad I’ll never have to listen to another word out of that crooked old reprobate’s mouth. GRTBR.

Answer is no term limits and morons who continuously vote DemoRat regardless of the character of the candidates. No one escapes the term limits of life on earth.
I think governors only appoint replacements if there is a Senate seat vacancy. Normally a special election is held to fill a House vacancy.
MLK talked about content of character being more important than color of skin. Not a popular expression these days.
