Ultimately, the District does not belong to D.C. residents. It belongs to all of us.

There you have it, and I say Not In Your Life

SCOTUS would decide but it has no business getting that far.

It’s hard to know what form it will take, but I think we will see 1 or more court cases that establish the Constitution as a Dead Letter. There are so many instances where it is ignored. Did you know what your right to own and carry a gun cannot be infringed?

At some point, people will just acknowledge the Constitution as a quaint old document that doesn’t really mean anything. The Left can do what it wants.

Well he wasn't mine. I considered him a Resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave but never president.

If DC was supposed to be a State, they would have made it a State.

The fact that it was composed of two existing states speaks for itself. Any reversion does not permit a new state.

The whole place needs to be bulldozed and turned into a bird sanctuary.

The Constitution only exists as a relic in a glass case.

It is no longer operative.

If the permanent legal residents of DC (who are not supposed to be there) want to vote, let them vote in the state they would live in if DC wasn’t a separate entity. Problem solved.

First, let me say I appreciate the time and effort taken by contributors who find and post material here. We are all beneficiaries of your labors.

These articles have educated me and fascinated me.

Having said that:
What does the large photo of the capitol dome add to the sense of the article? Very little.

These sometimes gratuitous and sometimes irrelevant photos slow FR down — for those few of us still on laggardly connections — and add the risk inherent in “Steganography.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography

In addition, I sometimes print off an article to read later, or to give to my wife, who does not “do” FR herself.
The unnecessary photos dress up the FR website appearance, but when it’s paper time, they burn up extra pages and ink, for no true value gained.

Again, I deeply appreciate the work you do — it helps me in gaining understanding.

Sometimes the photos are crucial to making a point, and sometimes they’re simply pretty or interesting, or are a visual end in themselves, such as the breath-taking astronomy photos of the day.

And sometimes they just aren’t really needed.

I know this is an unpopular opinion. Sorry ‘bout that.

“The whole place needs to be bulldozed and turned into a bird sanctuary.”

It already is. It’s full of dodo’s, boobies, cuckoos, ostriches and vultures. What more do you want?

D.C. was created out of land ceded by Maryland and Virginia.

In 1847, the mostly residential portion ceded by Virginia was returned to Virginia.

If the residential portions of D.C. no longer wish to be part of the Capitol, then their land should be returned to Maryland, not formed into the 51st state.

Don’t see that changing now.
