A 29-year-old man is behind bars, charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a mother of six while driving down Interstate 95 in Lumberton.
Dejywan Floyd, 29, of Lumberton, was arrested early Thursday at an apartment complex, the Robeson County Sherriff’s Office said in a news release.
Julie Eberly, 47, was riding in the passenger seat with her husband on March 25. The couple, who are from Pennsylvania, were on their way to Hilton Head Island to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Floyd is charged in the fatal shooting of Julie Eberly, 47, of Manheim, Pennsylvania. The arrest comes a week after Eberly was killed when shots were fired from a car on Interstate 95, just north of Lumberton, as Eberly and her husband were driving to the beach to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Ryan Eberly was not injured.
The sheriff’s office said an investigation revealed a road rage encounter unknowingly developed after the victim’s GMC Yukon came close to Floyd’s Chevrolet Malibu during a merge into a lane. Floyd then allegedly pulled to the victim’s passenger side, where Julie Eberly was seated, rolled down his window and fired multiple shots into the passenger door. Witnesses said the suspect then drove off. Ryan Eberly was not injured.

This entire event makes me so angry, I could scream. I keep trying to imagine if Julie Eberly were my friend, sister, and so forth. I just can’t fathom it. The killer is just another one of these people who have no conscience. I’m sure it was seared long ago. The guy has a long record and as that sheriff said down there, had he been where he should be (in jail), she’d be alive.
I’m disgusted with all of it. There are consequences when evil is left to run amok.

It may be a case of road rage, but this is the very definition of a hate crime. White racism isn’t the problem in America, and the left knows it. It’s out of control Black violence against their own kind and the rest of America. That’s where the so called race dialog needs to be started.

Idaho allows drivers to carry loaded guns in our cars in plain sight or hidden. Deadly road rage is rare, as you may be catching some lead.
He might have felt just as dissed if a black driver had come too close. Half of murder victims are young black men because they can’t tolerate any small affront to their pride.
It’s sad, it’s terrible for their families and society, but if they want to live that way, they will, apparently. Just too bad when they lash out at people not in that life.
I was raised so pro-civil rights and now I get segregation. At this point, separate states or separate countries are looking good.

The libs look for every excuse to enact gun control. In this case, there already are gun control laws! The black perp was previously jailed for being a felon in possession of a gun, among other crimes of assault that landed him in prison. But he was out again, being a felon with another gun. And murdered an innocent white woman. We need stronger laws against black racist felons!
