On 28 January, a young man in a red hoodie snatched a pistol from a man openly carrying it, in Detroit, Michigan. The robbery occurred in the BP gas station at Seven Mile and Wyoming Ave. A confederate held the store door open. It was unclear if there was another confederate in the getaway vehicle. The getaway vehicle did not have a rear license plate.

The man openly carrying the pistol was identified as being 53 years old. The surveillance video, released on 20 February, reportedly by the Detroit Police Department, shows the snatch. The open carry victim is busy at the counter with his wallet in his hand.
It appears the crime was not a crime of opportunity, but was planned. The perpetrator in the red hoodie does not have to discern the pistol and make a decision. The snatch is done as soon as the pistol is seen. The perpetrator appears to know what is available and what he is going to do.
The pistol appears to be in a simple clip-on holster, which is merely clipped to a pocket. There does not appear to be any retention strap. The image of the black pistol, in a black holster against black pants makes resolution of the details difficult.Screenshot of image from video surveillance released by the police, cropped and scaled by Dean Weingarten
Some early accounts indicated the thief pointed the stolen gun at the owner. That is incorrect. The gun pointed at the owner is a different gun with an extended magazine. The thief was prepared for the robbery in advance.

Notice the title says ‘bystander’. What a crock.
The gal who owns the hair salon I go to open-carries like this. Hopefully she’s more careful.
What were all those Northerners doing in Kennesaw? They were up to no good too.
I agree.
That dude had ZERO situational awareness - not a good look at all.
And there's that.
Yup
“We are traveling to Louisiana in May. They don’t grant CCW permits to non residents and they don’t have reciprocity with IL. There’s no time to get a Utah permit, which is recognized in LA.”
Get a non-resident AZ permit. It’s recognized in Louisiana. If you have the proper paperwork it only takes a few weeks and costs a whopping $50.
A good reason to carry concealed. And get some some gun retention training.
I have seen these ads. If you actually own/use one, I would be interested in a review.
When I carry Outside or inside I carry a KaBar knife on my weak side so if some jamoke desides to touch my gun I can hold him with my right hand and open him up with my left and he lets go quickly.
Good plan.
Built for smaller guns for comfort (i.e a berretta 92fs would be a considers fairly large. God for my Glock19). Very comfortable since the gun holds down onto the leg. No gut pinching. Takes a few practices to get the draw down, but I do recommend it.
Thanks for that.
+1
Concealed carry is best. It also gives one the advantage of being able to surprise an attacker. Concealed carry with permits means that the person with the gun has at least some rudimentary training. Open carry is a bad idea. It’s too easy for some thug to start something if he can openly carry a gun everywhere he goes. How do you know the good guys from the bad?
“How do you know the good guys from the bad?”
By their actions maybe?

Thanks. I will probably do that.
Appreciate the help.
