The federal investigation into Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz is focused on allegations that the junior congressman had a sexual relationship with at least one minor, and is scrutinizing the Republican's conduct not only in Florida but in other states too, three sources familiar with the investigation tell ABC News.
The investigation, first reported by the New York Times Tuesday and confirmed by ABC News, has sent shockwaves through Republican circles, particularly among close associates of former President Donald Trump, who considered Gaetz a staunch ally and loyal friend.

Depends where. In Florida the age of consent is 18. So it could be statutory rape. The Federal investigation suggests Mann Act (human trafficking) charges.

My mother was married when she was sixteen, she had graduated from high school and was employed. We have lots of photos of happy family members after they eloped, her husband, not my father, was in the Marines and was only a year older. No one considered them children.

Gaetz says there is no 17-year-old. She doesn’t exist.
I’ve seen no evidence that she does exist.
The extortion? I hear they have recordings. The FBI is reviewing that evidence.
The game of politics is very one-sided these days. The Left can make up stories — and that means they automatically win. Full media press about how awful that Republican is. Like the Trump dossier, right? The Left wins by making up allegations.
I think I want to sit back and see what bears fruit: the extortion or the 17-year-old. Even if that turns out to be true: she’s 17, not 11. Yes, in Florida, that’s too young. But does she exist? Did they go on a date? Did they have sex? It’s all allegations without evidence that I’ve seen. I’m not going to lose my head over this quite yet.
But I do want to hear more about the Deep State’s extortion racket.
crossing a state line makes it a Mann violation and the only reason the DOJ could investigate. Apparently he took her on some of his trips across state lines.
Thought I heard that the alleged victim was also threatened to stick with the story, or that they would charge her with something?

In my early life, I ran for state elected office. I won. But during the election, someone who supported my opponent passed out a flyer stating that I had been involved sexually with underage girls and that I had impregnated an underage “black” girl. It was all bogus and false. So you cannot say it’s hard to “blackmail folks who don’t have skeletons in their closets.” I had no such skeletons. But that did not stop them from making the claims. If we have learned anything, we have learned that the Democrats will tell any lie they want because they know they will get covered. Remember the lie Harry Reid told about Mittens? That he had not paid taxes for years and years. It was a out and out lie. Reid even later admitted such but said “it worked” and Obama won. They do not care. So, any Republican that will stand up and be a force against the Dems will be lied about. One does not have to have skeletons for them to make crap up.
And when I ran for re-election, I was approached with a “blackmail” attempt that if I would withdraw from the race, a bogus claim would not be released, but if I stayed in the race, it would be released. I stayed in...nothing was released because it was all a lie.
Have you pondered the fact that if Gaetz was really guilty, then he might have actually tried to cut a deal with the extortioner instead of going to the justice department with the blackmail story? The same justice department that the blackmailer claimed was investigating Gaetz?
Gaetz categorically denied the allegations. It think it’s utter BS. But some filthy dems were trying to make money.
If the accusations are true (and I say IF), it is obvious that Gaetz had no intention of marrying this girl. I want to know why they can’t say whether she exists, and if so, how old she is/was. Also, I want to know how close an association Gaetz had with that sleazeball Greenberg, who is involved in sex trafficking.

With this Deep State, don’t put it past them to coerce someone to present false testimony. You know, it would be very Ballsey Ford of them to do so.
There are those sources again. Personally even if true I don’t care. To me a 17 year old is hardly a naif. As long as coercion, threats, or other illicit means were not used to obtain “consent” I believe consent is just that. Yes I know the law sees it otherwise. Yet a 17 year old is considered able to consent to sex with somebody who is closer in age. They were even considered (until recent changes in law) old enough to contract a marriage. They certainly are considered mature enough to get an abortion. So I see this as a smear job and attempt to destroy a Trump loyalist. Legalities be hanged.

I started working when I was sixteen, Bought my first car at 18, married at 23, bought our first house at 24, but didn’t have our first child until 30.
Now, “kids” are on their parent’s insurance until 26 LOL.
At the youngest, reports are she was seventeen.
Even if the NYT story is close to accurate, my point was he wasn’t engaged in some sort of child trafficking or pedophilia. Yea, he’s too old for her, but it’s not at all unheard of for a man to “date” a young woman 20 or more years younger than he.
