Former Nixon campaign official G. Gordon Liddy, who was a key figure in the Watergate scandal as the chief operative in the White House Plumbers unit, has died, according to multiple news outlets. He was 90.

Broadcasting with “cheap East German radio equipment”
Liddy had a great radio voice and he could make reading articles from the Washington Times very interesting broadcasting. I saw him in person at CPAC 2009. Of his two books that I’ve read, WILL and WHEN I WAS A KID THIS WAS A FREE COUNTRY, WILL is the best.
He was on an episode of Perry Mason back in the 70’s 80’s (?)as a radio host of a right wing talk show back then. The murder victim was Heraldo Rivera I think. It was quite funny if I remember correctly.
He had a great radio show and he was a actor too. Yesterday, two radio ICONS died yesterday - G. Gordon and WFLA’s Ted Webb (a local icon in the Tampa Bay area...)
“G had a wonderful grasp of the English language.”
To this very day, every time I hear commercials that use the word “free,” I think of GGL.
He said, “You don’t get things for free. You get them free of charge.”
RIP Mr. Liddy. What a character! I recall his book a good read. To this day, recall his telling of strapping himself to a tall tree during a thunderstorm.
This is a good movie with Robert Conrad as him based on “Will”

There is a scene where he is telling his boss to tell him where to stand so he can take a bullet for the Watergate fiasco.
You recall correctly.
As a boy, in order to overcome his fear of rats, he did indeed trap, kill, roast and eat a rat. His way of overcoming his fear by eating it.
Pretty sure that’s correct.
I never ordered one. (Kids at home in those days.. )
I know a few people who were pretty close to GGL in the 80’s... He was a character alright. But I wouldn’t exactly call him a shining example exemplifying purity and goodness. Sheesh...
Po'town??? Where is that?
ff
Guys appreciated the coolness, too. Living on a boat with a gator, guns, a football hero, cars, music, the women, being tanned, the clothes, etc.
I forget the exact words in one scene about politics and a politician but I will paraphrase:
Rico: I think I will give her (could be a him) a chance. She is for everybody.
Sonny: When I hear someone say he/she is for everybody, I know they aren’t for me.
Rico laughed.
That told me Sonny was right of center. :-)
Not that I ever heard him say.................He was a Catholic, old style.................
Po’town is short for Poughkeepsie.
In many ways, he predated Rush with the reading of news, then commenting on the story-—just without the entertainment value.
I recall him saying once, “I don’t have any guns in my house;
however, Mrs. Liddy is very well armed.”
RIP, G Man. I always enjoyed his radio show.
RIP, Mr. Liddy. Thank you for all of your service to this nation - known and unknown. You were clearly unique. Now it’s time to train the angels in how to bring fast and accurate fire on target for the coming battle.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“Should have taken Dean with you.”
“I don’t think Liddy was the chief operative in the Plumbers, in fact that whole story of Watergate is not what most think.”
Meanwhile, there WAS a site with a good explanation of it, but it is private now (damn, I should have copied that story and put it into Word): https://crankynotions.com/2012/08/22/forty-years-on-and-watergate-still-doesnt-make-sense/ It had a lot to do with John Dean wanting to cover up a list of clients of a high-class whore house, which included him (he married one of them, and the timing of that had not a little to do with preventing her from being compelled to testify against him).
Anyone can request to have access - I just did, and am hoping that the owner grants it. Perhaps he will, owing to Liddy’s death.
