BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows that more than 80 percent of North Dakota is now in severe drought.
This lack of precipitation is causing problems across the state.
“We’ve been calving since the end of January, so it’s been beautiful calving weather and that side has really, really been good. But as we move into spring here, of course, there’s going to be a lot of concern of are we going to be able to produce the forage and the grass people need to be able to feed the cattle,” said Will MacDonald of MacDonald Ranches.
Concerns are not only with feed availability but also with water quality.

There’s always a drought somewhere.
Until April ends in drought this is nothing but fear mongering in an effort to push us toward brain damaging life shortening high carb vegan diets.
Its really bad here in central/west ND. We had no snow, and basically no moisture since last fall.
Not to worry. I’ll be in western North Dakota for a month starting May 15th. Your drought will be over by the end of May. You can thank me later!
If it rains I will!
Your ignorance is overwhelming. Cattle herd size is based upon the ability of the land to carry the cattle. In western ND, much of that land is governed by BLM and the Forest Service and they dictate how many cow/calf units the rancher can put on the rented summer pastures. This drought could see grazing allotments cut by 20% or more. Try taking a cut like that in your business and even if rain comes later in the season, it takes 3 to 4 years to bring a herd back to full productivity.
They can have some of our moisture.
We’re inundated.
Pretty bad here in Fargo as well.
Farmer is outside the delivery room waiting on his wife. Doctor comes out and says the mother and new baby are fine.
Farmer says what is it.
Doctor says it’s a boy and he is going to be a farmer.
The farmer says how do you know he is going to be a farmer.
Doctor says he is crying already.
Yup, we’ve got too much here in MO. Come get some.
