Former Trump chief of staff calls ex-President's Capitol riot claims 'manifestly false'
CNN ^ | March 27, 2021 | Kelly Mena

The former chief of staff to ex-President Donald Trump on Saturday pushed back against his former boss' recent attempt to whitewash the history of the January 6 Capitol riot.

Mick Mulvaney, who stepped down as Trump's special envoy to Northern Ireland after the insurrection, called Trump's comments that his supporters were "hugging and kissing" police officers and posed "zero threat," despite widespread violence, "manifestly false."

"I was surprised to hear the President say that. Clearly there were people who were behaving themselves, and then there were people who absolutely were not, but to come out and say that everyone was fine and there was no risk, that's just manifestly false -- people died, other people were severely injured," Mulvaney told CNN's Pamela Brown on "Newsroom."

"It's not right to say there was no risk, I don't know how you can say that when people were killed," he added.

Mulvaney was one of a handful of senior officials who resigned in the wake of the January 6 riot, including former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and former Trump deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger.

Trump earlier this week attempted to rewrite the history of the insurrection, which he stoked by repeatedly and falsely claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him. There is no evidence of widespread fraud, but Trump and many of his conservative allies in the media and on Capitol Hill have continued to push the narrative.

“Trumps largest failures from the start - some of the people he chose. Too trusting and not enough research.”

Agreed, but considering that the Presidency was the first elective office Trump ever ran for means that he didn’t have a lot of people close to him with experience in politics. He had to trust Republicans and Republican leadership to help him choose. Too many of them were swamp dwellers.

Hey Mick, why don’t you and Nancy get together and coordinate your testimony now that you have revealed you have knowledge of the facts pertaining, because the other side needs a laugh to break up the witness list between bringing in the now 3-dozen USCP officers charged in the protestor tours.

“If Trump wants to win again, he needs to promise not to hire backstabbing clowns.”

Same goes for Republican voters. They need to stop reelecting the same “backstabbing clowns”.

It wasn’t an insurrection at all.

Had it been an insurrection the gallows wouldn’t have been quarter or third scale ... among other potential differences,

More importantly a guy with a silly hat put his feet up on queen Nancy Pelosi’s desk. For that he is still being held without bail. I’m waiting for him to be stretched out on the rack until he confesses his crime.

Now you know who was leaking like a siv to these news outlets about Trumps inner workings...Mulvaney is part of the Cheney wing of the Republican Party and wants Trump out of the way as soon as possible but see Mick good luck making that happen

Mick, what weapons have been found? Someone did plant explosives at the RNC and DNC, so you think Trump approves of those? Really?

Mick is sick.

Anyone who uses the word “insurrection” is either a liar or a useful idiot.

I still contend if in fact was an insurrection, the number of congressman’s rotting corpuses would have still hanging from the lightposts outside the Peoples House, (you remember the Peoples house, the one as of late with the fence and razor wire that remains encircled to prevent us from addressing our rulers) to this day

Remember who was in charge of the creating the initial list of people for administration positions during the transition period: Chris Christie. He got fired for stuffing his own cronies into every position but you know damned well that some of the bad apples Trump ended up with had Christie’s fingerprints on them. His and Reince Preibus’ fingerprints.

The ones that come out all self-righteous, stabbing President Trump in the back are the ones that prove themselves to be unworthy of the trust he placed in them. In President Trumps next administration, he needs people who he can trust when they recommend positions in his administration......surely there are a few left in that stinking hell hole.......

“some of the people he chose”

Some? Did he hire *anyone* who didn’t stab him in the back? Is there no one amongst the aristocracy who is normal and honorable?

Who was advising him on those hires?

Anyone here (except the trolls) would have been a better pick for any of those jobs. We certainly couldn’t have done worse.

Is there no one amongst the aristocracy who is normal and honorable?

Why would someone give up a succesful career in the private sector to take all the arrows that would come their way if they chose to work for President Trump? Can't hire people who don't want to take the job. So, he was stuck with who he could get, most of whom, had no interest in seeing his agenda succeed.

Unarmed protestor shot by police at mostly peaceful demonstration would be the headline if the shoe was on the Democrat foot. And Deep State Derp Mulvaney wouldn’t utter a peep in reply if that was the case.

Yep. Christie, who believes he would have been the nominee but for Trump (not a joke), got Chris Wray into the Trump circle. Christie and Wray are pals, and Wray backed Christie’s aborted presidential campaign.
