Former Trump fixer Michael Cohen meets with New York DA for the eighth time

Michael Cohen, former President Donald Trump's former fixer, is meeting for the eighth time with the Manhattan District Attorney's office on Friday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Prosecutors have increased the frequency of their interviews with Cohen since they began in the fall of 2019 soon after the district attorney's office subpoenaed Trump's accountant for his taxes.

Cohen, who worked for Trump for about a decade and once said he would take a bullet for Trump, knows the inner workings of the company. Prosecutors are interested in speaking with Cohen because he can help explain the culture of the company and the relationships between Trump, his family, and Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization.

Prosecutors are investigating whether the Trump Organization improperly inflated the value of its assets when dealing with lenders and insurance companies and deflated them when filing taxes.

They are also investigating tax deductions taken on fees paid to consultants, including Ivanka Trump, the former president's daughter, and conservation easements given on Seven Springs, a family estate in Westchester County, NY.

The investigation is also looking into a $130 million loan for a Chicago property. In addition, they are also looking into hush-money payments Cohen facilitated to silence two women who alleged affairs with Trump. Trump has denied the affairs.

Cohen told Congress that Trump inflated and deflated the value of certain assets to obtain loans and lower his tax bill. He also was involved in the hush-money payment scheme and pleaded guilty to nine charges, including campaign finance violations, in connection with the scheme.

Either he has a book deal brewing or he’s trying to avoid doing yet *more* time at Club Fed.

They keep tapping an empty keg, as if some beer grew in there since they last time they hit it.

Hi.

I could say snitches get stitches.

Or I could say snitches sleep with the fishes.

But I won’t, simply because there is no there, there.

Think about it. Multiple agency audits, the FBI spying on you, with state agencies coming for your ass, and what after all these years and investigations do the corrupt bureaucrats have?

Bupkis.

Meanwhile, Cuomo killed 15,000 nursing home residents thru his actions, then forced others to cover it up.

Let's be real...Cohen shouldn't have any right to see Trump's tax records. He is NOT one of his accountants.

So all he can be doing is..."I think this...I think that...and he has no actual first hand knowledge of Trump's records...other than those that pertain to himself (Cohen).

Prosecutors are investigating whether the Trump Organization improperly inflated the value of its assets when dealing with lenders and insurance companies and deflated them when filing taxes.

Seeing this stupid sentence in a media report on Trump and the New York prosecutor's office tells me several things:

1. Trump has committed no crimes.

2. The DA knows this.

3. The people who write these articles can't even articulate what crimes he could even remotely be accused of committing.

Let's go through a few things that even a neophyte like me knows about commercial real estate:

A. Nobody accepts the owner's assessment of an asset at face value. Lenders require third-party appraisals, for example. Nobody is going to extend me a $900,000 second mortgage on my $300,000 home just because I claim that it's worth $1.5 million. The same goes for insurance companies. And it makes no sense for anyone to pay insurance premiums based on an inflated property value, either. "Hey, Acme Insurance Company ... Please write me a $1.5 million insurance policy on my home that has a replacement value of $300,000!" -- said nobody, ever.

B. When it comes to a property owner like Trump, there are likely to be large differences in how his properties are appraised for tax purposes and how they are appraised for investment purposes. If I own a high-rise luxury residential building in Manhattan, it might be worth $300 million for investment AND tax purposes. But if Trump owns a building next door that is identical in all respects except for the name "Trump MAGA Tower" on the facade, there's a damn good chance that investors and lenders will consider it a $400-$450 million building, not a $300 million building.

Funny, but in all the loans I ever got that were secured by real estate...the lender hired appraisers.

Is his official job title ‘fixer’ or is that just CNN trying to plant some bias in the article by suggesting Trump had him doing illegal things?

Good to know that these same standards and techniques will be applied to all members of congress when they are done with this.

They are literally trying to get him to look at Trumps tax returns and say ok show us the crime since they can’t find one and what they’re finding is Michael pretty much lied about his usefulness to them

Any idiot in the press or elsewhere who thinks Cohen had “inner knowledge of the workings of the Trump companies”-— had better recognized that Cohen was one of 40 or more lawyers , very far down the ladder— whose only job was to get signed non-disclosure agreements from the many annoying sponging, gold digging women who came after Trump. Give them a payoff (as little as possible) along with the hold harmless/non-disclose signed and BINDING contact.

That’s it. He has no knowledge of anything else no matter how much the outfit prosecutors are trying to help Cohen have some ... “sauce” to his casserole. He doesn’t.

The real rat in this Spanish Inquisition is the outrageous Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Seriously, are there no laws they have to follow, any rules of decorum and judicious attitude or are they ignoring REAL work to get Trump in a whatever-it-takes petty act of vengeance?

This reeks of illegal, over-prosecution.

My feeling is that they are busy trying to fabricate a case against Trump. If there were anything dirty in Trump’s business affairs it would have been brought forth years ago.

This many meetings suggest conspiring.

I assume Trump could have any case arising from this skunk, tossed out of court on the basis of attorney/client privilege?

Yeah a lying sack of crap is always a good credible witness. The whole plan was revealed by the DA to go after Trump. Your main witness is a proven liar. Can’t wait for them to start questioning Putin.

You are absolutely correct about what you posted, but these prosecutors are dyed in the wool Trumphaters. They will think they can still get a conviction out of a New York jury and they might be right.
