AstraZeneca has been widely used in the UK, EU, Australia, India, Canada and Mexico for some time already. There was a recent hold in the EU to investigate potential blood clot side effects, but that issue may be resolved with the results of the American Phase III Trial.
Looks like Novavax is slipping into May, for its expected Emergency Use Authorization.
There something like 12 nations in Europe who have stopped the AstraZeneca rollout due to concerns of vaccine injury.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the AstraZenecca vaccine has been cleared by the EU.
Article behind paywall. Some limited excerpts:
“The European Union’s health agency said that the Covid-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca PLC was “safe and effective” and didn’t increase the risk of blood clots, a decision that could clear the way for the resumption of inoculation campaigns that have been halted in much of the region.”
“The European Medicines Agency said that new expert analysis concluded that the benefits of using a Covid-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca outweigh its potential risks and inoculations with it should proceed.”
Wife and I received our second Pfizer dose this AM. So far, nothing has fallen off or no new extremities.
“‘It’s a very special picture.’ Why vaccine safety experts put the brakes on AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine”
“The decision this week by more than 20 European countries to temporarily stop using AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine has opened a rift between vaccine safety experts, who say the cases of serious clotting and bleeding that triggered the pause are alarming and unusual, and public health officials concerned that the immunization pause on a continent in the grip of the pandemic’s third wave could take a heavy toll.”
Yeh because 7 European countries just banned their vaccine.
And you still can't specify which vaccine you want, so now the roulette wheel includes monkey virus.
Sheesh.
I’d be surprised if the risk-averse FDA actually authorized the AZ/Oxford vaccine any time soon. The clinical trials they conducted had numerous problems in protocols and there’s at least a question (probably nothing, but the question begs to be answered) about the blood clotting reports. WHO says the rates of clotting issues are no different between recipients of the AZ/Oxford vaccine and the general population, but I can easily see the FDA refusing to move forward until all investigations have completed.
There’s really no rush at this point, given how quickly the other vaccines - which no linger questions on safety or efficacy - are working. There’s also the issue of the AZ/Oxford vaccine being largely ineffective with the South Africa variant. I’ve seen one study claim it works with the Brazil variant, but I’d be curious to see those results replicated.
If it doesn’t work with all variants, it doesn’t have a lot of value.
Welcome back clotter.
Two issues with A-Z:
1) It is the “dirtiest” of the four in terms of stem cells from aborted babies...not that any of the four are “pure”.
2) Several nations have ceased using it because of blood clot concerns.
“AstraZeneca to seek U.S. authorization for COVID-19 vaccine this month or early next”
well, there sure would be a bountiful supply for the U.S. since use of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been suspended in more than a dozen countries:
the AstraZeneca vaccine is the one that actually does affect a cell’s nucleus that it enters that some conflate with all of the vaccines.
I’ve had a pretty good life and I’ll continue to do so as long as God wants me to. And I’ll do it without a Covid ‘vaccine.’
Forgot to tell you but when we got our second shot today, they gave us these buttons. About four inches across, Says “I’ve Been Vaccinated.”They’re like the old political campaign buttons. Wonder if I wear one to Walmart, I can skip the mask.
That is the very last vax I would take...
This is the Phase 3 trial, right now.
