By now every person awake, as opposed to “woke,” knows the dangers of Big Tech.
Through algorithmic manipulation, de-platforming and other noxious off-shoots of the tyrannical cancel culture these companies are changing history, reversing freedoms hard won since the Magna Carta, while having an unconscious numbing effect on our brains that eventually would render us a race of drones.
Something has to be done.
The federal government seems to be able to do no more than hold hearings. Those that might actually want to do something, like Sens. Hawley and Blackburn, are thwarted by the Democrats who, though they pay lip service to privacy concerns, have no real interest in biting the hand that both feeds and promotes them. (It also feeds lots of Republicans.)
The solution, as it does for most things these days, resides with the states, if they can ignore or reject those munificent campaign contributions.
The first steps, as they frequently are these days, have been taken by Florida governor Ron DeSantis.
In mid-February, the governor announced “The Transparency in Technology Act” to “check the growing power and influence of Big Tech,” whom he accused of looking more like “Big Brother with each passing day.”
The proposed legislation “includes protections from capricious changes to platform terms of service, requires platforms to tell users why their accounts are suspended or terminated, and requires that algorithmic bias on behalf of a candidate be disclosed as a campaign finance contribution.”
That could add up, depending on how you compute it. Moreover, de-platforming a political candidate, in his legislation, would cost the companies $100,000 a day (lunch money for these guys, but still…)

PING!
Since the DC swamp refused to do away with their legal protection from prosecution the only weapon available is boycotting them and that’s not likely to happen since social media is a mental respirator for so many people.
DeSantis better be careful. Democrats might start smearing him
There’s a whole lotta “you guys have to...” lately. To everybody who insists I must do anything: BITE ME. You think it’s important do it. Stop demanding crap from me.
DeSantis is going to be a tough contender a lot of Trump in that man.
I am already boycotting and buy nothing made in China due to their ownership of the regime unconstitutionally occupying the chicken coup in DC.
The answer to Big Tech is NOT MORE unconstitutional government interference in free enterprise. The answer is OPEN COMPETION in the free market with rich and smart Patriots entering the marketplace FREE from government interference to OUT-COMPETE and win in all areas.
You are wrong on both points.

Thereby avoiding accountability and having to do anything. The hearings are always a farce.
What is to keep red state legislatures from passing state laws to circumvent Federal section 230 law granting social media companies immunity from defamation suits if they censor posts on their platforms. Seems the Feds have jurisdiction to extend that immunity on a Federal level for suits brought in Federal court but a case can be made that, on a state level, that the states have sole jurisdiction to set forth evidentiary rules within state courts. It is worth a try for Desantis to get the state legislature to pass such a bill to shoot across the bow of the social media companies who will have to defend actions in those states. Politically, it sends the message that even though the Dems are in control of the Federal government, red states are going to penalize the social media companies for their censorship of conservatives and they better cut it out or it is going to be expensive for them. In the end, the SC may strike down the red state laws but the social media companies will be on notice that this is just a start of the legal harassment they can get on the state level. DeSantis is definitely moving in that direction. Good for him.
All red states must forbid use of Facebook, google, Amazon etc by all subdivisions of the government.
They cannot be trusted to truthfully disseminate information, not store it.
Same with banks that participate in bans of gun stores or whatever
This is the same as sanctuary cities refusing to enforce federal immigration law.
If enough red states act in concert the feds won’t have the manpower to enforce unconstitutional decrees without state assistance.
If only blue states accept these destructive decrees while red states actively oppose them the power of DC to tyrannize will decline.
Amen
I could care less about Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media company; I didn’t like the Fairness Doctrine and I don’t like the idea of any media company being told a damned thing about what they can or cannot publish or who they have to allow access.
Some of these people need to STFU and go read a book.
Freedom of the press is only relevant for those who own one.
No. The Red States need to join together and secede to form a new Republic.
DeSantis can run for Prez of that new country.
Today Ron DeSantis announced ‘critical race theory’ will NOT be taught in any Florida public schools.
