Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order that will eliminate all fines issued by local government officials over the past year to people and businesses in the state who violated restrictions related to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
The order (pdf) was signed after the Board of Executive Clemency approved DeSantis’s proposal on March 10 to categorically remit all fines related to local government CCP virus restrictions.
“I hereby remit any fines imposed between March 1, 2020, and March 10, 2021, by any political subdivision of Florida related to local government COVID-19 restrictions,” DeSantis confirmed in the order, referring to the disease caused by the virus.
Fines excluded are those related to hospitals, assisted living facilities, and other health care providers. The order also does not apply to any CCP virus-related orders or enforcement taken by the state.

In France they used to have an informal policy (maybe they still do) whenever they swear in a new president, they wiped out all the old outstanding minor fines like parking, traffic tickets etc.
More states should do things like that. New administration, take a little burden off the little guy.

I don’t know how many times I saw that trope trotted out on social media in the past year, but it was a lot and it never, not once, turned out to be accurate. Sturgis wasn’t a mass killing field even though two people who weren’t health care researchers claimed it. Letting fans into the NFL stadiums, diners into restaurants, fans at the superbowl, none of it panned out to be as the worry worts said.
If I were governor of a state where local municipalities were using fines or jail time for violating covid restrictions, I’d issue a blanket pardon.
The next conservative president should, if democrats pass gun legislation making millions of us felons over night, issue a blanket pardon to those people affected by the new laws and use the dem tactic of “prosecutorial discretion” until the laws can be repealed.

He already has, I live in Florida and we’ve 100% capacity since July or August, No statewide mask mandate and he eliminated all penalties local and county governments imposed....
Attendance at Sporting events is about the only thing that was restricted....churches have been open all summer, etc..
Can DeSantis visit Indiana and teach RINO Eric “the idiot” Holcomb how to run a State? Dim Wit Holcomb has allowed every minor county official with zero authority to fine businesses over his illegal Mask Mandate.
Yergy’s BBQ in Bluffton, IN actually fought the Mask Mandate, so Holcomb had County Heath Officials fine the Restaurant out of business.
Constitutionally, POTUS and VP can’t come from the same state and Trump has set up residence in FL.
