‘Fatal Vision’ Killer, Jeffrey MacDonald, Wants Compassionate Release
New York Post ^ | March 11, 2021 | Rebecca Rosenberg

Former Army captain and ex-surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald — who is serving three life sentences for the high-profile slaying of his pregnant wife and two young daughters more than 50 years ago — is once again seeking his freedom.

MacDonald, whose story was told in the bestselling true-crime book “Fatal Vision” by late journalist Joe McGinniss, has a hearing Thursday afternoon in the Eastern District of North Carolina to determine whether his motion for compassionate release will be granted.

Chief Judge Terrence Boyle is scheduled to hear arguments from both sides but MacDonald, 77, will not be in court. It’s unclear when the judge will issue his decision.

This is why I don’t date serial killers male or female.

You just can’t trust ‘em.

Dinner starts out okay and then there is, “hey let’s go for a ride, I know a quiet spot we can be alone.”

Once a serial killer always a serial killer. Best advice my mom ever gave me.

MacDonald employed at least four weapons, leaving aside his own fists, during the course of his murderous rampage: A piece of lumber, which he used to club his wife, breaking her arms, and with which his older daughter, Kimberley, was either unintentionally or intentionally hit. A Geneva Forge paring knife, which he used to stab his wife. An Old Hickory paring knife, which he used to stab both his wife and daughters. An ice pick, which he used to stab both his wife and younger daughter. He also staged the scene to appear as if a Manson Family-like group invaded his house, murdered his family, and wounded him. He inspired himself to articles he read on Esquire, and, wearing surgical gloves, used Colette's blood to write the word "pig" on their bed's headboard. Finally, he non-lethally stabbed himself with a scalpel, called an ambulance, and discarded the weapons and gloves.

February 17, 1970: 544 Castle Drive, Fort Bragg, North Carolina:
Colette MacDonald, 25 (his wife; beaten and repeatedly clubbed with a piece of wood, both her arms were broken; later stabbed 21 times with an ice pick, and 16 times with a knife; also killed their unborn son)
Kimberley MacDonald, 5 (his older daughter; clubbed in the head with a piece of wood; stabbed in the neck between 8 and 10 times with a knife)
Kristen MacDonald, 2 (his younger daughter; stabbed 33 times with a knife, and 15 times with an ice pick

His kids would have been in there fifties now. Raising their own kids, grand-kids, maybe even led to a cure for cancer if they had lived.

I would show this guy as much compassion as he showed his family.

I’m sure the prison can find an inmate who will give him a good handy-j.

He apparently stabbed himself to make it look like he was also a victim.

The murders occurred during a rainy night, yet there were no wet footprints or mud in the house, just his bloody footprints.

Had no idea he was still alive.

He should never be freed.

So, if I read this correctly, a guy who killed his pregnant wife and two little girls with a club wants me to feel sorry for him because he might get the sniffles. Not happening.

Back in probably the 4th or 5th grade me and a couple of buddies thought it would be cool to skip school. As I recall we got bored quickly and couldn’t wait for school to get over and go back home.

Except at the last minute we realized we would have to tell a story for our parents. Well - we thought getting kidnapped by some older boys would be a good one! Scratched ourselves with barbed wire to sell it.

Our moms figured it out in about 5 seconds!

Two lessons learned.

1) Don’t do stupid stuff.
2) If you do, don’t make elaborate stories to cover it up. The more elaborate they are the easier it is for the lie to come out. (i.e. “Columbo”)

the mini series “fatal Vision” (based on the book) is a great insight into what happened that night, plus the absolute determination of the wife’s father to bring MacDonald to justice.

A few years after this murder I had dinner with two CID investigators who were the first on the scene. Both told me “Cop to cop, You knew he killed them as soon as you opened the door.”

I support his release only after his head is chopped of with a dull pocketknife
