Last fall, the U.S. Air Force simulated a conflict set more than a decade in the future that began with a Chinese biological-weapon attack that swept through U.S. bases and warships in the Indo-Pacific region. Then a major Chinese military exercise was used as cover for the deployment of a massive invasion force. The simulation culminated with Chinese missile strikes raining down on U.S. bases and warships in the region, and a lightning air and amphibious assault on the island of Taiwan.

China has been rather transparent about their ultimate intentions. They consider us the enemy and their intention is to defeat us. Xi has made no bones about it. The idiots who we have had for a government the last thirty years just refuse to believe him. Bad judgment. Trump was the only one who got it, and look what happened to him.
China, or any country in this scenario is by definition attacking the US using Weapons of Mass Destruction aka WMDs. The default upon usage of WMDs against the US is to respond in kind. That means a massive nuke counter strike sending the adversary back to the Stone Age.
Question... Would a D President (ex. Biden/Harris) have the cahones to do this or wimp out?

950 million people standing around in a radioactive rubble, with zero food, infrastructure, dams breaching even if they aren’t hit, no military, or even the ability to make it to the next town without walking. So that’s not the same as 950 million people in a functioning nation.

A modern Democrat pres probably wouldn’t be able to locate the nuclear football or the nuclear codes judging from their history.
It all depends on the narrative. You don’t say, “we are dropping nukes.” You say, “we are retiring the coal-fired power plants in China.”
China has been greatly increasing its military and rapidly Increasing Nuclear, Naval, and Next-Gen Tech, and is surging its space capabilities and plans to double its stockpile of nuclear warheads in the next decade, and operates the world's largest Navy (but not of the same overall caliper), surpassing US in Ships, Missiles and Air Defense and its military numbers 3,205,000 soldiers.
And they are the only country with the manufacturing capability to engage in a prolonged major war. And the U.S. Defense Supply Chain is too much reliant on China. Ninety percent of the world's printed circuit boards are manufactured in Asia, and more than half in China, and some may be have been infected with computer viruses.
In round numbers, let's say out of 1.5 billion that 500 billion were gone via nuclear retaliation. That 1/3 gone represents the majority of the economic and political capability of the nation. I don't think this assumption is far fetched.
Would this nation cease to exist as a coherent entity?

When I hear the name Trump mentioned, my heart skips a beat and I realize how yuuuuuuuuge a disaster 2020 was and what a bigly desperate time we live in.
Didn’t Russia lose 20-30 million people during WW2? That’s probably 15% of their total population. The Chinese are hardwired differently than the people who live in the West. I believe their tolerance for a disaster is much greater, I would say it would take 1/2 of the population disappearing before the CCP gets overthrown.
Who are those people?
