In response to the book review article Does ‘race’ science refute superior humans? We received the following response (in red) interspersed with CMI’s’s comments.

"And yes, this sort of thinking is found in Darwin.
Here is a quote from The Descent of Man:
“At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries,
the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world.
At the same time the anthropomorphous apes … will no doubt be exterminated.
The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian [i.e. Aboriginal] and the gorilla [emphases added]”.
I think that racist doctrines - advanced under the banner of science - actually were a development of The Enlightenment. This is not to say that there wasn’t ethnic chauvinism and rivalry prior to that, but it assumed a new quality during the scientific revolution.
Not all Darwinists are racists, but some racists are Darwinists.
They’re absolutely connected.
The only reason for Darwinism and Evolutionism is the only other way things were created is that God created them.
The fact is that Evolution is Unproven and Unprovable and is Taxpayer supported.....

Racism is a learned behavior and puts people into classes....
You are evolutionarily successful if you have surviving offspring. Next best is if the offspring of your near relatives survive.
People who “look like you”(same race) have more in common with you genetically than those who don’t look like you.
Henry Morris covers this in “the Long War Against God.”

Evolution theory existed in the ancient Hindu texts. Darwin came up with his theory after these texts were becoming known and discussed in Britain and the US.
One has to be an intellectual to believe the paramecium to man fairy tale. But the answer is yes.
Love to see Darwinism get cancelled by its own. If it’s good enough for Dr. Seuss it’s good enough for Darwinism. Buying popcorn.
Yes, they are.
Interesting.
Yes, indeed they are linked just as they are linked with eugenics (which was also a form of racism if not flat out racism) of that time period and the time period thinking afterwards which ultimately led to the thinking surrounding the Master Race, Aryanism, etc.
End dwarfism now.
The doctrines of that age were reflective of the cultural norms of the time. Enlightenment was birthed from European mercantilism and the formation of vast global trade networks that brought goods and peoples from across the globe to Europe and by extension the American colonies. Prior to these trade networks, Europeans would possibly have heard of Africans but very few would have ever seen one. The technology gap between Africans and Europeans would also feed the false belief of white skinned men being a superior being in contrast to the African. Couple this with the slave trade and you have a perfect storm of bias.
“Darwinism” is not a single, offensive theory, but a bunch of them. Some are non-controversial, reliable and objectively observable; some are subjective, questionable and downright offensive. And some are opinions and extrapolations of various theories that are just nonsense, both by Darwin himself and his followers.
Racism seems to be a very different thing, but also one of several different elements.
1) Outward appearance and alien nature. Differences in language and cultural habits. Unusual religious and legal beliefs and cultural norms. Abiding by sexual courtesies. Generally polite and cautious behavior, along with a willingness to help outsiders. These are individual elements.
2) Group elements include a willingness to integrate to a new society. A willingness to punish, or allow to be punished, one of their own who has violated the legal beliefs or cultural norms of their hosts. Rejection of ghettoization and voluntary segregation. Acceptance of the taboos of their hosts, oddly enough, especially as it relates to food and sex.
And there are other elements as well.
…Man, like every other animal, has no doubt advanced to his present high condition through a struggle for existence consequent on his rapid multiplication; and if he is to advance still higher, it is to be feared that he must remain subject to a severe struggle. Otherwise he would sink into indolence, and the more gifted men would not be more successful in the battle of life than the less gifted. Hence our natural rate of increase, though leading to many and obvious evils, must not be greatly diminished by any means. There should be open competition for all men; and the most able should not be prevented by laws or customs from succeeding best and rearing the largest number of offspring.""We civilized men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination; we build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed, and the sick; we institute poor-laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of every one to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands, who from a weak constitution would formerly have succumbed to small-pox. Thus the weak members of civilized societies propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but excepting in the case of man himself, hardly any one is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.”
-Charles Darwin, Descent of Man
In the Darwinian view of humans as animals, what would cause us to stop practicing animal husbandry within our own species? Reduce the meaning of "human" to "just another animal", and eugenics is fair game. Scientific data is well supported in animal husbandry. Eugenics is only abhorrent to those who recognize that there is something transcendently special about humans.
In the early decades of the 20th century, Human Zoos were created where thousands of indigenous peoples were put on public display and touted as “missing links” between man and apes. Their public display was arranged with the enthusiastic support of the most elite members of the scientific community, and it was promoted uncritically by America's leading newspapers.
With Darwinism, there is always an inferior race and a superior race - there must be an intermediate bridging the gap - or as Darwin states:
“At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked will no doubt be exterminated. The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian and the gorilla.”If Darwin allowed Dawkins to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist then he also allowed scientists to be an intellectually fulfilled racist.
- Charles Darwin, Descent of Man
Racism and eugenics were the hallmarks of the theory of human evolution in the early 20th century, representing a clear consensus of evolutionary biologists as well as other scientists and leaders in higher education and government (endorsed by the Supreme Court in 1926). Eugenics is an ugly part of American history that was taught to our children (See: Hunter’s Civic Biology ) - a movement that caused the compulsory sterilization laws in 30 U.S. states that resulted in more than 60,000 sterilizations of disabled.
At the core of the current theory of evolution is materialism/naturalism and this is a worldview with consequences. For example, as Stephen Meyer points out -the constitution assumes:
In contrast, under the materialistic picture of reality pervasive in our culture, you get this:
These are not Conservative principles and is partially to blame for our current state of affairs.
He didn’t start it by any means. But he gave it a “scientific” basis. Everyone was a racist back then.
No one said that Charlie was the founder of racism. He gave it an explanation and justification, however.
