A California serial killer known as the “I-5 Strangler” in the 1970s and 1980s has been killed in the prison where he was serving multiple life sentences, state correctional officials said Monday.

In 2020, governments in the US executed some 17 multiple killers. At the same time, armed citizens killed hundreds of criminals in the commission of felonies.
Only multiple murderers are eligible for execution, with the average time of about 20 years before they are given justice, assuming no intervention to spare their lives.
Criminals killed by armed citizens during felonies get no lawyers, judges, juries, nor can their sentences be commuted or overturned. And just about any felony, not just multiple homicide, can get them killed.
To put criminals in prison can cost at least a million dollars per prisoner. Not a good bargain compared to the cost of a few bullets.

I agree. I recall when I heard Jeffrey Dahmer got whacked in prison. If in charge, I’da found out who whacked him, gave him free booze, steaks, chicks from some other prison and what ever else turned his crank, for at least a month.
Prisoners do have their own form of ethics.

Was the cell mate a relative of one of the murdered victims? I could not find that in the article.
I was overjoyed when I read this story. The perp was convicted 30 years ago. Quicker than death penalty in CA.
FR beat Wikipedia. He is still alive there. They made a TV-movie about him & his crimes, though changed some details. Bo Derek’s boyfriend played the detective.
I was wrong. I got another I-5 killer mixed up with him. The one that killed and raped dozens is stilled alive. Randall Woodfield is his name. He is the one they made the “Hunt for the I-5 Killer” about.
Can a person murder and go to Heaven?
The Torah decrees the death penalty for wanton murder. Period. A fair trial should be held and if evidence is conclusive, execution should follow swiftly. “Thus you shall remove evil from your land.” To allow the murderer to live makes you an accessory to it. Murder has two components; 1) You kill your victim. 2) You live on to gloat over their death. To allow the murderer to live kills Justice.
That is a different, worse I-5 killer, named Randall Woodfield, who is still alive. This is the guy who was just murdered in prison:

I think that was his execution. He’s more likely to be released by California than executed. In fact I can’t remember the last time anyone was. They were all commuted to life by one the nut job governors last I remember so he was never ever going to be executed by that state.
