A man is being held on $10,000 bail after he allegedly kicked a police officer.
Christopher M. Thompson, 42, of Rathdrum, is charged with battery upon an officer, a felony. He is also charged with resisting and being intoxicated on a roadway, both misdemeanors.
Police responded Wednesday night to a report that a man who appeared intoxicated was wandering outside a Coeur d’Alene motel. Management reportedly wanted the man, later identified as Thompson, trespassed from the premises.
Thompson was staggering in the middle of the road near the intersection of 20th Street and Lakeside Avenue when police contacted him, according to court documents.
Police said Thompson did not comply with orders to stop walking and keep his hands out of his pockets.
Officers reportedly pulled him to the ground and handcuffed him before transporting him to Kootenai Health for medical evaluation.
At the hospital, police said Thompson kicked an officer, connecting with the officer’s ankle. He allegedly attempted to kick the officer a second time, but missed.
Police said Thompson made comments that indicated the kick was intentional, according to court documents.

Thompson went from a misdemeanor for being intoxicated on a roadway to FELONY for kicking the officer.
I've never seen the word trespassed used this way. It seems odd, like "I borrowed him the money."
Is this a proper use of the word?
It’s a good charge, but with the leftists in judiciaries at every level, I’m betting the charge is dropped. Yes, even in Idaho.
Yes
Check out the go-go dancers with open carry holsters and pistolas! This would never be made today...
During my career as a fire officer I was kicked, punched, pushed, bitten, grabbed, scratched, had y helmet knocked off, and even had a naked mad man pull a loaded hand gun from under a couch cushion, point it at me from a few feet away and then start pulling the trigger. Fortunately he had put the bullets in the magazine backwards, but his intention was to kill me. None of those incidents resulted in any legal actions taken against any of the idiots who engaged in those completely unprovoked attacks. And yes we live in Washington State.
My wife and I were looking at crime statistics in Clarkston WA, and Lewiston ID. They are the same metropolitan area with a river running between them. Clarkston has approximately twice the crime rate. Washington has no state income tax. Property taxes are about the same although home values not surprisingly are typically a bit more expensive on the Idaho side of town.
Of course in Washington State the leftist morons on our State Supreme Court just legalized carrying illegal drugs around as long as you claim that they aren't yours. The same principle may apply to the possession of stolen property. Look that one up. The coverage makes it sound like there was a divide between liberals and conservatives on the court; just one problem with the accuracy of that. They are all leftists on our State Supreme Court.
I’ve been to Coeur d’Alene, ID on my way back from Priest Lake Id.
Coeur d’Alene, is probably the most liberal progressive city in Idaho.
Lovely but crowded place. Glad to see all those moving from Calif. haven’t destroyed it yet.
Didn’t some local Coer d’Alene establishments stop serving folks from Washington recently?
Something about long lines at the bigger clubs leading to rowdy out of towners taking over smaller bars.
It could only be made if they were black and it was a rap video.
It’s an older use, and in some jurisdictions a strictly legalistic use, but in either case, a proper use.
“ most liberal progressive city in Idaho”
Not by a long shot. Boise, Ketchum, Moscow and Sun Valley all are way ahead.
Your story about the abuse you endured is shocking. Is that abuse against firemen common?
Yes, that’s correct. Because North Idaho has never locked down the way Washington has, rowdies from the Spokane area were coming to CdA around 10 pm to drink and fight. It was getting real ugly. A number of bars just last week started carding patrons and rejecting people from Washington.
Probably not in the more civilized areas in our country, and that was spread out over 25 years. I do not feel that firefighters are commonly “abused”. But we do get more hands on experiences with the public than the police who tend to handle people at an arms length.
And it also depends largely on the community that you are serving. I happened to work in an area that went through a violent time with a lot of drugs, alcohol and gang violence. Even then nearly all of the problems were with drugged up, drunk, or mentally ill people. Sometimes people also lash out when they are injured or ill.
It is similar to when you find an animal that has been injured. They will bite or scratch you when you are trying to help them. And unlike Aesop's tale about the slave who pulled the thorn out of the lion's paw... they typically do not remember that you helped them even a few moments later.
A drunk guy in handcuffs kicks a cop in the foot and it’s a felony?
We live in clown world...
Many of us call it no-nonsense law-and-order. Maybe you prefer the non-stop assaults on police in Portland and the criminals released for every crime under the sun?
If you stop it at the “kicking the cop in the ankle” stage, it doesn’t turn into Portland.
So in your mind the only 2 choices are anarchy -vs- police state?
If the police were held to your ‘standard’ we would have no police left...
A man is arrested for assaulting an officer, charged with a felony, and you think that is a “police state”? You think some weird thoughts.
I have noticed the sickness of Communism around Boise. We are new here from CA, but live in the suburbs. On my way to Bogus this fall I saw a ton of “Republicans for Biden” signs, which made me think the local pharmacies could have been out of Thorazene...
Agreed. The idea you would even verbally assault a police officer or even remotely hurt one, is nutty.
If you respect the cops, they respect you. In ID, you can legally carry concealed at 18. People here drive with weapons all day.
It’s not CA or OR.
