Social movements tap into our most primitive emotions, obscuring the complexities of sociopolitical problems. Reason is traded for ideological fervor and skepticism is swapped with religious dogma. Such was the case in 2020 in the wake of several high-profile cases of alleged police brutality involving black victims. Across the US and Western countries worldwide, activists and average citizens alike vigorously protested against a perceived (but empirically refuted) “epidemic of racist police killings.”
A new survey commissioned by Skeptic Research Center reveals the extent to which the public is misinformed on the issue of police violence. Participants across the political spectrum in the nationally representative survey were asked how many unarmed black men were killed by police in 2019. The results were revealing. Overall, nearly half of surveyed liberals (44 percent) estimated roughly between 1,000 and 10,000 unarmed black men were killed whereas 20 percent of conservatives estimated the same.
Most notably, the majority of respondents in each political category believed that police killed unarmed black men at an exponentially higher rate than in reality. Over 80 percent of liberals guessed at least 100 unarmed black men were killed compared to 66 percent of moderates and 54 percent of conservatives. But, according to a close database compiled by Mapping Police Violence, the actual number of black men killed by the police in 2019 is 27.
The second question the survey asked was: “In 2019, what percentage of people killed by police were Black?” While the survey states that the actual percentage is around 25 percent, the average survey respondent guessed 50 percent (58 percent for liberals and 41 percent for conservatives). The disconnect between perception and reality couldn’t be starker.

Most people know that it doesn't happen all that often.
You just get the race baiter newspapers and activists blowing
smoke to anyone who will buy in.
The thing that triggered these riots was the MSM reporting of the Floyd demise and spiking the facts behind his condition at the time. Because of that getting those facts out are desperately needed

The democrat controlled media racist killing reporting was a deliberate miss portraying of the six foot seven inch 200 plus pound Floyd as an innocent black who was being forceably restrained because he was black not because he was resisting arrest.When He was legitimately arrested for passing a counterfeit $20 dollar bill he was resisting arrest and was a threat if not secured. But the media was not mentioning his size or reporting that Floyd was removed from a squad car because he was acting up under the influence of drugs and also later was discovered to have COVID 19. Which suggests his physical condition may have led to his death which the media turned into a murder change and a charge of serious abuse by police because of police efforts that were tried to get him who under control. If Obama had urged blacks to believe in the justice system and comply with the police would we be confronting his use of creating racial division now ?
The results of politically induced miss reporting incidents where blacks have resisted legitimate arrest began to be used earlier during and after the post Zimmmerman trial, then on to the Ferguson episode. Obama’s abuse of the “Bully Pulpit” which seemed to promote resistance to legitimate arrest led to black gangs attacking non blacks found innocently traversing black neighborhoods and to a score of murders or life changing injuries and later attacks of theft and vandalism on local businesses as well as attacks and murders of police officers during that period
But most people don’t know that. That’s the point of the article. Even conservatives greatly overestimate the number of deaths. Far too many people “buy in”. That’s the problem.
Media hysteria to sell.
Headline should have been written as:
“Media Purposely Lies About Police Brutality Against Blacks”
Sub-Headline: “Decades Before Damage Is Undone - Even if Media Comes Clean Today”
The left has do do EVERYTHING it can to keep blacks on the political plantation.
The Left will crank-up even further the division, lies and violence.
we have allow ourselves to be controlled by words they have chosen. Racism is always the foundation now we have white privilege, critical race theory, white supremacy bringing it to a head, the next step is we will be wearing America flags on our clothes much like the Jews wore the star of David in Nazi Germany. How does the majority in this country who are white allow this crap to continue??

Any time the narrative comes up where there it is asserted there is an epidemic of black men being shot by police officers, here is the statistic that should lead off the ensuing conversation:
Did you? Not trying to put you on the spot, but did you buy
into the idea that blacks were being mistreated on a grand

Yes, some people do buy into it, but I suspect it’s people who
are trying to prove to themselves how much more “they care”
then “others care”.
I care about the black man’s plight, but I also understand
why some communities experience a different type of police
activity than others do.
Hi crime areas, areas with lots of homicides, areas where
there is a lot of overt drug activity, areas with a lot of
domestic abuse, areas with a lot of shootings, drive bys,
are going to get a lot different policing than a community
where those things are not happening on the same scale.
When officers pull people in these neighborhoods over, they
can’t display milk toast attitudes. They’d be overwhelmed
if they did, so they come off with an attitude.
It’s not hard to picture these dynamics.
It doesn’t mean that a white neighborhood with the same
problems as a bad black neighborhood, wouldn’t receive the
same type of policing. On the other hand, it’s also true
that an upscale black neighborhood wouldn’t receive that
type of policing.
So unless a person is an activist, they can probably understand
this sort of thing.

Even amongst the “unarmed” black men who were killed, most either resisted arrest, fought with police, or used a car as a weapon.
The racist police that last year, who after doing millions of arrests, much of which were arrests of violent armed people, only ended up shooting just 2 unarmed black men unjustifiably, and which prosecuted the two officers involved i nthose instances-
Yep- the police are real racists- oh yeah- and during those millions of arrests- 54 officers lost their lives last year-
It is the police that are being abused by criminals, of all colours, not the other way around
