Texas Governor Greg Abbott told reporters he is considering lifting the statewide coronavirus mask mandate. The governor said he is also considering stopping other statewide COVID-19 related orders.
During a news conference in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Thursday, Governor Abbott responded to a question about when he would end the statewide mandate requiring the wearing of masks.
The governor called it a “great question,” the Texas Tribune reported. “We’re working right now on evaluating when we’re gonna be able to remove all statewide orders, and we will be making announcements about that pretty soon.”

About time. Maybe give the flu a crack at it since there hasn’t been one case reported this year. -sarc
Just in time for Biden’s visit...lol
I was in a neighboring TX town a few days ago. Streets were busy and bustling with folks. Only saw 2 people wearing masks. Went to eat at a restaurant. It was the first feeling of normalcy in over a year.
In my town most people are still masking, although I hardly notice who is masked and who isn’t anymore.
Many of us are ignoring the "mandate" now, and happier for it - and I have yet to meet Karen.
And that idjit git FOTUS will give a presser wearing 10 diapers on his ugly face.
LOL
Hope so! We will be visiting South Padre next month.
I think they already have on Federal Property and Mass Transportation.
A local TV station ran a poll during last night's 10:00 broadcast. About 90% voted to keep the mask mandate, 10% wanted to eliminate it.
Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, Evers the jack wagon says we could still be under mask mandates all the way into 2022...
....a “Karen” does not have to be of the female gender... I was in my local market the other day, and had my face diaper on but under my nose...some guy came up to me and berated me for not having my face diaper all the way up over my nose... these people are sick, truly sick....I read the other day that according to a recent poll, even after the phony pandemic is over and done with, some 70 per cent of Americans will still want to wear face masks...we have become a country of sheep.....
...yes, that PoS Biden says anyone on Federal property or on mass transsit, etc. will have to wear a mask...insanity on steroids....
Here in MS our mandate ends on 3 mar (or something like that) but most p[laces have given u trying to get folks to wear masks anymore as we take our FReedom back.
Good grief.... just do it already.
Abbott continues to fiddle “while Rome burns”.
DO IT ALREADY!!
And make sure the county “kings” can’t keep their own mask mandate!
I’ve had a few looks and one panicked store owner ask me to put one on (he was afraid of getting fined) but no one yet has approached me to say anything yet
For years my wife was concerned about my imposing presence affecting people’s willingness to approach me—now it’s a blessing
I work in downtown Houston and live in the suburbs, and it’s night and day. Downtown, the streets (and tunnels) are relatively empty, 80% are wearing masks outside for some reason, and most restaurants are closed. In the suburbs, no one is wearing a mask outside, the streets are busy, and the restaurants are full.
And it isn’t necessarily explained by partisan politics, either. My neighborhood is pretty much dead-center “purple” based on election results. While the people who live downtown are mostly on the left, the people who work downtown are all over the political spectrum.
That’s the most important part for me. I don’t want him leaving us to the mercy of Lina Hidalgo.
And the Legislature needs to strip the statewide “king” of this power. It is insane that the governor can grant himself almost unlimited power by declaring a disaster with no deadline. There is a bill filed that would require the governor to obtain approval from the legislature to extend any disaster declaration beyond 30 days, and we all need to lean on our state reps to pass it.
Throughout this covid travesty I always thought the real problem with widespread masking, specifically the mandated masking of healthy people who represent the vast majority of Americans, was that making everyone appear to be sick would severely limit our ability to recover from the deliberate damage done to our economy and, as important, to our society. This has occurred (and continues to take place), but the bigger problem with widespread masking is that it makes irrationally frightened, breathtakingly ignorant people do bad things in the name of their "good intentions."
I am criticized occasionally for characterizing fearful people as cowards -- covid cowards. But my use of that term -- which I will continue to use -- is literal. America has truly devolved into a Nation of Cowards; even worse, into a nation of people who justify their liberty-destroying, American quality of life depressing behavior by their "good intentions" to "stop the spread" of a respiratory virus with a 99.9+ percent recovery rate.
And as long as this elevated level of irrational fear continues -- clearly the intent of the current administration with the highly effective help of a politically-compromised national media and with the support of politically-compromised, celebrity-obsessed medical "experts" -- America's return to normalcy -- the restoration of a generally rational, sane society -- will not happen.
I imagine that would depend on how much grief the mask wearers get.
