The CDC started sacrificing its credibility for political purposes long ago. Now, close to half the population has serious reason to doubt their numbers.
No one I know believes it. My daughter works for Visa and got a call very early in the “epidemic” from a 70-year-old cardholder who was hospitalized overnight with a badly broken leg. An overnight in a hospital might be $5,000 - $7,000 at most, but his bill was $35,000 for “Covid respirator care.”
Meanwhile in my very nice senior complex, we have perhaps 200 “vulnerable” citizens who socialize and and have picnics on the lawn and go to one another’s places for dinner and drinks and whatever. No Covid cases that anyone knows of. One good friend died at 91 from Leukemia. Another fellow handed out free Corona beer to his friends in honor of the virus.
They may be exaggerated inho, but even if they were double the actual numbers, 250k dead is very high
