South Carolina veteran uses butt of his shotgun to kill home intruder who attacked his wife

A South Carolina armed home invader who attacked a 79-year-old woman near her back door is dead after the victim’s 82-year-old Vietnam War veteran husband beat him down with the butt end of a shotgun earlier this week, according to local authorities.

Herbert Parrish snatched the firearm off a wall mount after the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Harold Runnels, broke into the home with a knife, knocked his wife to the ground and slashed her forehead Monday afternoon, Columbia, S.C.-based FOX 57 reported.

He lived in a nearby mobile home community, according to WJBF-TV, and approached by knocking on the back door and asking if the couple had seen a missing dog.

Runnels later died at a hospital due to injuries suffered in the scuffle, according to authorities.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Eric Abdullah, a department spokesman, said residents should call 911 immediately if they suspect their home is being broken into.

"Of course, folks have the right to defend themselves if their lives are in danger, but the best thing to do is to call for help," he told the Aiken Standard newspaper.

Wow. I for one really want to know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

PM me!

And I apologize if I got the name wrong. Been a long time since I listened to him.

My dad kept his hunting guns on the wall, unloaded. I hope the stock didn’t get damaged.

As a veteran he probably is content with taking the idiot out with a buttstroke move he learned in basic

Can you describe the techique? e.g. "with SG held inverted with butt forward and trigger guard/loading port up DRAW the rifle back and THRUST the butt into the target. Step into the strike for a added effect. Repeat if necessary..."

Like that?

Never use a cell phone when driving the butt end of of your shotgun into the head of someone who is attacking your wife. When you finish call authorities. You will still have 15 to 20 minutes to Butthead Beavis.

Yep, it’s those vertical butt strokes that get ‘em every time. There’s a good reason for steel buttplates.

Have to wonder, will this add to the LEFT’s list of ‘Gun Fatalities’ and will there be a call for banning gun butts?

This guy is 82? I hope I can still get around that well if I make it to 82.

Wouldn’t work well with my shotgun, it has one of those rubber recoil pads on the buttplate.

I guess I’d have to use the other end...which I’d likely do anyway if he’s already inside and cutting someone up.

Looking for a yard sale one day out in tbe boonies, 20 miles from town, someone had a sign up in their driveway:

We don’t call 9-1-1

I liked that.

Last time I had to call the Sheriff’s office, loose pitt bull trying to jump me, I had to fend the damn thing off with a bicycle for 27 minutes according to the cell phone time stamps, before a deputy finally got there. And that was after yelling to try and get a neighbor’s attention for several minutes before calling. Lucky I actually had my phone and it would get a signal. Both unlikely. Nobody home. Fortunately, the dog didn’t know just what to do about the bicycle. She would lunge at me, I’d shove the bike toward her, she’d back off. I got lucky.

After that, I started to carry a gun when I went out for a ride, legal or not. Cops got his attention, he kept his vicious dog tied up after that. I had already told the guy several times she needed to be tied up. “Oh no, she’s just a big baby, she’d never hurt anybody”...yeah right.

Out here, call for help means a half hour wait. I’ll call for help _AFTER_ I stop the threat. No way they can get here in time. Unless a deputy is already parked in my driveway...

***Sheriff’s office? Yeah, can you send a couple of deputies out here with a body bag? No hurry.***

Let’s fast forward to biden’s world.

Thug tries to break in or forces his way in the door. In 3 seconds he’s attacking your wife.

You run to the other room, fumble with your LOCKED gun safe. Finally get it open and remove the LOCKING trigger guard. Remember, you’re scared, nervous and shaking.

Now you run to still another room and try to get to the ammo, which is in a SEPARATE, LOCKED SAFE. Now you still have to load the thing.

Never mind, your wife and son are dead, he’s just finished beating you to a pulp with his baseball bat, and is taking his time going through the house looking for money, jewelry, whatever he can sell for $20 to feed his crack habit.

Cops will be here in another 20 minutes or so.

This is exactly what was described by a man in Australia after his government did exactly what obama, hillary and now biden want to do here. Remember before hillary ran, obama said “if we want to deal with ‘gun violence’, we need to look to Australia as an example”. Hillary said the exact same thing, word for word, at her campaign rallies.

Australia implemented a gun “buy back”. (How do you buy back what you never owned?) If you didn’t sell the gov’t your guns, at a loss of course, they would send the cops around to bash in your door and confiscate them, and arrest you, you’re now a felon.

How did they know WHO to look for you ask? National gun registry. In our case, background check database will do nicely. Remember, in all the past half dozen or more mass shootings, cops knew the shooter had passed background checks within 24 hours.

Now, you can still own a gun in Australia, if you pay the huge fee, go through the background check, get the federal license. Then you have to store the gun in a locked safe, with a locking trigger guard, unloaded. Ammo must be locked up in a separate location. You don’t want to know how expensive it is.

Look into fully auto here. Minimum $10,000 for a well used, pre 1986 gun, (nothing after 1986 legal at all) plus federal license, $200 tax stamp, FBI background check, picture, fingerprints yada yada...that’s what we can expect for just a single shot .22 rifle, if biden gets his way. And that’s probably all that will be legal too, single shot .22. If you pay through the nose.

This is what biden wants for the US. He said in 1993, “gun confiscation is an idea whose time has come” He has wanted confiscation for a very long time, now he is in a position to make it happen. He is putting people in place who he knows want the same thing. Gun control bills are already popping up.

This is not an unlikely scenario, in all seriousness, within the next 4 years, what I described above will be happening right here in our country.

Be very worried. Me? They’ll have no choice but shoot me to get mine. And I plan to take a couple of them with me.

Despite any claim they make, police and EMS are second responders. You are your own first responder.

Keep weapons around. They don’t have to be guns they can be hammers, other tools etc... but it’s good to keep stuff around the house so you know where it’s at if you’re scrambling inside your home while somebody’s trying to stick a knife in your guts. At least you got a little something for them if you’re not actively carrying inside your own home.

Just what do the cops expect you to during the 15-20 minutes it takes from the 911 call to the arrival of a cop?
Beating this guy to death was the correct method of using an unloaded shotgun.

I learned/practiced the move with an M1 and an M14 a long time ago. Does it work with the plastic stock on an M16 or and M4?

I haven’t seen a single round of ammunition in Rural King or Academy Sports for the past two months. Clerk at Rural King said, “I can’t understand why people are still buying guns when we don’t have any ammunition”.
