In Britain, soldiers and politicians who came out of the world wars with enhanced reputations were said by their peers to have “had a good war.” Similarly, in coronavirus America, some politicians have had a “good pandemic.” But no politician in the country turned in as Churchillian a performance over the past year as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo became a hero to Democrats across the country last spring, his stature on par with President Barack Obama, with live-streamed daily press briefings that projected steely resolve and paternal authority in the face of a deadly menace. The New York Times’ media columnist Ben Smith called him “the executive best suited to the coronavirus.”
Brash and seemingly no-nonsense, he was a welcome relief from former President Donald Trump, whose approach to the virus ranged from denial to conspiratorial gibberish. With Cuomo at the helm, New York would keep a stiff upper lip and flatten the curve by itself.
Yet Cuomo’s star turn is at odds with his actual record. The governor’s confident bluster has obscured his habit of dismissing scientific expertise in service of burnishing his own reputation and asserting his final authority over every lever of power and policy in the state.
Cuomo’s record speaks for itself, and it’s a far cry from the rosy picture the national media painted a year ago. His leadership bears little resemblance to the tale of triumph he presented in his premature pandemic memoir. New York did not, in fact, best the Covid-19 “mountain” through “the power of ‘We,’” as the Cuomo administration suggested in a bizarre promotional poster. Cuomo’s briefings may have been a comfort to many in the spring, when there was precious little relief from Trump’s gleeful malevolence. But it’s time to stop grading Democrats on the Trump-era curve.

When I watched Cuomo’s press conferences last year all I could think of was a whiney, inept, and corrupt political hack.....
I saw nothing soothing or interesting in his press conferences.....just someone who liked to hear themselves speak...
Didn’t get the “rising star” moniker he was being given.
We’ve known about the nursing home massacres since last spring. But the left chose to ignore them.

Sure he did. Cuomo wrote a book about how he made himself a “covid hero.” Now that the truth of his fiasco is coming out, they want to push Trump into the mess.
The national media? Does NBC set itself apart from the national media? President Trump closed travel off from the culprit early on and was excoriated by the national media.
Cuomo was a willing participant in the spread. The national media was as well. When did mask wearing become a thing? When did the Chinese buy up all the PPE they could find in the US?

Trump didn’t make Cuomo a hero, Trump haters did.

These people are utterly delusional. They are literally taking something Trump did and putting it on Cuomo.
Trump’s approach was “denial or conspiratorial gibberish”. Odd, I remember Trump sending a Navy ship to NYC, outfitted in record time as a hospital ship, that was never used. I remember Trump outfitting the Javits Convention Center as a complete hospital, again never used. I remember Trump sending thousands of unused ventilators to NY. I remember Trump ordering an effective vaccine (several of them, in fact) that has inoculated tens of millions and was developed in nine months, not the three years the “scientists” senile Josef Biden predicted would take to come up with an effective vaccine. The author of this “news” article didn’t write news, he spouted the gibberish opinions from his head.
They finally decide to get it right (partially) about Cuomo but still take the opportunity to slander President Trump - Trump just didn’t put on as “good a show” as Cuomo. But the record shows who truly took it seriously and took actual decisive action to deal with it - and it wasn’t Cuomo. Trump gave New York every single thing they asked for, and then some. Got a military hospital ship there and docked. The media deadpanned this, if they covered it at all.

He didn’t. Dems are unable to live with the weight of their sins so they created a delusion to live in. Cuomo was being called out for his poor performance as it was happening but the Dems ignored it at the expense of the elderly who died.
They simply can’t bear the weight of their sins.

“Trump’s gleeful malevolence” included sending a hospital ship, renovating the Javits Center into hospital beds, setting up a temporary hospital in Central Park (all of which were not used to house infected nursing home patients) as well as providing ventilators that Cuomo was supposed to have stockpiled but did not.
And (surprise) NBC is acting like German citizens living near encampments who didn't know what was happing over the wall. The core of this scandal has been known for a LONG time, even by NBC. The "current" scandal is about record-keeping. Fair enough. But this is like bickering over the actual number of Tuskegee airmen to whom the government lied...that fundamental scandal was the program. In this case the fundamental scandal - Cuomo's main-lining of the virus into nursing homes - has been know to EVERYONE but, hey, we need to keep quiet on this to get Trump outta office.
The MSM is effectively saying they were ok with Cuomo killing nana but they are outraged that he actually killed more nanas. That's disgusting, but par for the course.
NBC (and rest of propaganda media) tried to make Cuomo a star but it turned out later he is unlikable and incompetent.
Funny thing is most people who actually took and take care of covid patients knew his performance was crap. It was known from European data you’d kill these old people if sent back to nursing homes.
