Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., raised more than $2 million for relief efforts in Texas as of Friday afternoon before traveling to Houston to help in the recovery effort.
“Charity isn’t always a replacement for good governance, but we won’t turn away from helping people in need when things hit the fan,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
The funds raised by the progressive lawmaker will go toward 12 food banks and relief organizations, including the Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, Family Eldercare, Feeding Texas and the Houston Food Bank, according to the donations page.

Good governance is an oxymoron
I do not disagree with you. Plus it keeps the argument away from her support of Green Energy Policies which caused this mess
Exactly. Cruz could have handled things better but biden should be there and had FEMA there. Could have released emergency funds. If it was a dem state he would have done it. Freaking people are so obvious. Wish they would have never gotten away with the election steal.
The Roman Numeral M = 1,000
Yeah, while her Biden/Dem/CCP admin caused the outages, suffering, loss and death to start with.
(By turning down Abbott’s whispered request to crank up the needed in-state power sources until too late.)
No, they caused this whole thing to start with.
Texas had plenty of in-state sources of energy, but were not allowed to crank it up.
Still, Cruz and Abbott (more than silently, behind the scenes) should have been on top of this to start with, too.
Taking a page from the Hezbollah playbook.
To me, places like the Bridge Homeless Recovery Center and Ending Community Homelessness Coalition sound more like the late, unlamented ACORN, LEFTist pressure groups with political goals!
What would be a good offset would be a way we FReepers could contribute to the Texas-area Salvation Army centers with a 'credit line' of "Free Republic"! The Salvation Army has one of the LOWEST overhead costs of any relief organization that I know.
Anybody else interested enough for me to find out more? If anybody else is ALREADY doing something similar, let this thread know!
She failed.
Considering the ink and airplay Texas is getting, AND the supposed left leaning population of America ...
(John Kerry was in Viet Nam and Joe Biden is the President) ...
If she had ANY legitimate following, she'd'a raised 12 or 15 million.
I mean ... CAHHHHH ... MON !
This is TEXAS of the burst pipes
First, there is a place to put "Dedicate my donation in honor or in memory of someone." So we could put "The Free Republic Internet" there.
Second, there is a checkbox further down to divert the contribution from LOCAL Salvation Army to "a specific city, state" so it cannot be to Texas or FROZEN TEXAS as a whole.
What I do not know is if this violates or works against FR in terms of rules or operations? So I have added Jim Robinson to ask this question!
Can she get me a plumber?
OK, so AOC can go and raise millions and try to help Texans, while Lyn’ Ted runs off to Mexico to avoid everything. I don’t agree with AOC, but I do think it is a interesting and devastating comparison for Lyn’ Ted to face.
Give it a freaking rest. You telling me that if you had the chance to go to Cancun or freeze your ass off you’d take the freezing? He left for 1 day. Funny how you seem to show zero interest in where the $2 million came from?
I hate to say it, but...Beto doing senior citizen welfare checks in Texas and AOC raising money to help Texas...maybe the Pubbies should take some lessons.
Cancun anyone?
AOC will be 35 by the next presidential election. Think on that!
Raised money? Pole Dancing?
I wonder how much is going towards “administrative” costs like salaries, new laptops etc?
Why didn't he stay till Saturday as originally planned?
Plumber?
I can see you voting for AOC and why don’t you give us a list of Senator Cruz lie instead of the robot lying Ted montage from 4 years ago
At the very least, you have to admit this was an unforced error by Ted Cruz.
