I suppose this is a nice gesture, but it would be weirdly stressful to me.
I wouldn’t mind picking up the tab for someone, but having it paid for me would make me very uncomfortable.

I’m curious. What did the 106th say?

I’m from Puerto Rico but in my Army times I’ve gone to school or lived in Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina. I absolutely prefer the South over any other region of the mainland.

Clearly extremist behavior.
“The car behind me said he’ll pick up my tab”, is the DC way!

Actually only the first guy paid for 2 orders. I guess #106 took his free meal and didn't pay for the guy behind him.

Around here, I fear that it would be a chain of one.

Stupid. Buy for someone who needs the charity. Drive through customers do not need charity.

I’ve been through two of these, very recently, at Starbucks. I end the chain by tipping the attendant/barista $10. She gets extra gas moola and an actual connection is made.

They intended to pay for their food anyway. Why would they need someone to pick up their “tab”

What really irritates me about drive-throughs is when they person in front of me has a complicated order. All I want is a medium black coffee and I have to idle for minutes and minutes while the car in front of me has bags, cups, straws, napkins and whatnot passed through the window. Then there is much scurrying in the car as the driver passes everything around or tries to get it all on the passenger seat floor so that it doesn't spill all over the place when he starts driving. Then you have to go through the whole getting change routine and the asking of the extra napkins and straws.
Then finally, when the entire order is filled, the car pulls up 2 feet and then suddenly stops, as the driver now realizes that everything has to be rearranged so that it doesn't spill all over the place.

I love Whataburger! I got in my 4WD Yukon last night and made my way thru the snow and ice to get me a Mushroom Swiss with fries and a Coke. First time I had gotten out since the cold and snow started here in Dallas.

Man I’d have been the one who ended it at position 106. I am all for charity but I’d feel strangely pressured, unsure of what I would end up paying for, worried about doing something wrong, overextending myself...
I guess if the guy ahead of me paid for me I’d try it but what if the guy behind me is getting dinner for 10?

I had it happen at a Michigan MacDonald's. It was promoted by the cashier who told me that the person In front of me had paid for my 6 diet Cokes. She then asked me if I would like to pay for the person behind me and she gave me their order total.

I once had a guy pay for my meal when he noticed the sticker for my Alma Mater on my rear window. His Dad was also a graduate, small west Texas school, not very well known.
Anyway I got a sourdough jack, 2 meat paste tacos, fries and a small dr pepper for free that day. Nice guy.

Something like this happened here in Ky a few years ago. Then Andy Beshear became Governor and people have been forced to cut back to the bare minimum and items from the dollar menus just to try and feed their own.
Many have waited almost a year and haven’t gotten the first dime of unemployment benefits.
While it would feel great to pay for someone like that it could be crushing
if they have a huge order and your on your last few dollars.
