what if aides and bodyguards had their own families to take care of as well?...

Send one from D.C. Ask another Senator. (Etc.)

Good Lord, FR is supposed to be a repository of people who exude initiative and self reliance and I get asked questions like this?

Very important to be a good dad. Also important to be a smart senator. I expected better.

I don’t understand the fuss.

Literally the best thing a Texan could do—unless he worked for a power company or gas or the like— is leave and take prsssure off the grid.

"On this thread I never mentioned Ted’s future races for his present office, or a higher office. I merely addressed what I thought was a big mistake. That’s all I see you doing also."

I've stated in several places that regardless of whether or not Cruz could have actually accomplished anything of consequence for the people of Texas, what he did accomplish was provide a campaign ad for any future opponents (as well as more generally reinforce negative stereotypes of conservatives like you, me and most everybody else on this forum).

On his campaign site, Cruz promotes himself as a, "proven leader." When I was in the army, we had a running joke that the basic difference between a coward and a hero is simply the direction they choose to run. As long as we have popularly elected senators, we (and more importantly, they) are going to have to recognize that Atwater's old admonition that "perception is reality," will always be in play, and Helen Keller could have seen that the perception of this was going to be that of running away.

Fair or not, conservatives are going to have to operate in the face of a hostile press. That is as certain as the sun rising in the east. Cruz and his staff apparently have a lot to learn about managing perceptions. There are many things Cruz could have done to run into the breach, but he chose to run onto the beach.

I've been active on this forum since '99, and you've been here over a year before me. What I find amusing is people with sign up dates from the last two months telling you and me that we must somehow be liberals because we dare point out the boneheaded, tone deaf nature of this move.

It is OK. It’s just. It smart. We expected better than this for someone with presidential aspirations. He’s fallen short many times.

“....leave and take prsssure off the grid. ....”

Good point!

MSM is making a big deal out of this because he’s a REPUBLICAN. How does it hurt Texas if he and his family are warm?

Ben Shapiro pointed out that he is a federal legislator, and it’s the Governor’s, or mayors’, responsibility to take care of Texas.

Ted Cruz has helped Texas, and the rest of the country, by all his great actions as U.S. Senator. I’ll never forget how he fought so hard to stop Obamacare. If more U.S. senators fought as hard as he did, maybe Obamacare would have been halted.

Even before he was U.S. senator, Ted Cruz, and Justice Scalia, saved our Second Amendment.

These posts (such as yours) are suspect, in that they are joining the MSM narrative.
How does it feel to align with CNN?

How does it feel to align with CNN?

So CNN is now calling out people who stabbed President Trump in the back by calling him reckless and irresponsible and blaming him for the attack on the capitol planned for weeks ahead of time by members of anarchist organizations.

Senator Ted Cruz: “President Trump's rhetoric, I think, went way too far over the line. I think it was both reckless and irresponsible because he said repeatedly—and he said over and over again—he won by a landslide; there was massive fraud; it was all stolen everywhere. That evidence, the campaign did not prove that in any court, and to make a determination about an election it has to be based on the evidence, and so simply saying the result you want, that's not responsible and you've never heard me use language like that.”

Two weeks later... it was my ten and twelve year old daughters who told me to do it.

I thought CNN was doing their best to deflect the blame for the collapse of the Texas electric power grid from wind and solar power, despite the fact that both wind and solar generation dropped off to essentially zero. And the resulting surge in demand on natural gas power plants caused pressures to drop in its distribution chain which caused water vapor in the system to freeze in critical areas in the distribution system. This not only prevented power plants from making up the difference but screwed up natural gas distribution to other users as well.

And who was the congress critter who was recognized with an annual award for doing the most to promote wind power in 2019? Was it AOC with her “New Green Deal”? Was it Nancy Pelosi? Bernie Sanders? or Chuckie Schumer? Who was the one who received the most prestigious wind power pandering award?

Tri Global Energy's Wind Leadership Award is given annually to a member of the U.S. Congress who has provided the most significant contribution to wind energy development.

“Senator Cruz understands the positive impact of wind energy in Texas, and it was important to us to recognize his leadership,” said Billingsley.

Ted Cruz was a traitor to President Trump... he has been one of the leading advocates for increasing the percentage of unreliable wind power generated electricity in the Texas power grid to the point that it has now become unreliable. When the system failed largely from his own efforts and the power went out... he, not his children decided that it was a good time to head to Cancun to avoid the consequences of his advocacy for wind power.

Poking a little fun at Ted Cruz is much less than what he deserves and I am certainly not aligned with CNN.

You should teach your daughter that being the daughter of a senator doesn’t entitle her to special privileges.

“So Ted Cruz is not at fault here.”

Have you ever worked for a real leader?

A real leader does not desert his people when they are suffering and in dire straits.

If the only thing he can do is die with them, then that is what he does.

“Have you ever worked for a real leader?”

“A real leader does not desert his people when they are suffering and in dire straits.”

I’ve been in enough leadership positions and worked for enough higher-ups to know that sometimes the higher-ups just get in the way.

Cruz needs accessibility but not necessarily physical accessibility. I think Cruz, though well intentioned, would get in the way.

Dubya’s FEMA Sec Brown went into NOLA after Katrina without a clue, WITHOUT A SINGLE SOLITARY MANDATED FEMA Personal CERTIFICATION and really screwed it up. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen was dispatched and turned the double disaster (Katrina & Brown) into an organized recovery operation. Mist Peopke haven’t a clue how massive an undertaking that effort was.

Any Senator worth his salt probably travels with something close to a Communications Suite, and the capability to communicate securely.

Besides, how long does it take to fly from Texas to Cancun anyway?

It’s a self-evident truth. I guess a person gets it, or doesn’t.

Ok... whatever.

I get it. I was in a first responder position for two decades at least, and when the brass shows up the brass just needs to stick to the white boards and leave the First Responders to their work.

Nothing will screw up a schedule or will tax resources more than officialdom showing up for a photo-op and an inspection.
