‘Wanted to Be a Good Dad’: Ted Cruz Responds to Criticism He Traveled to Cancun Amid Texas Power Crisis
The Epoch Times ^ | 2/18/21 | Jack Phillips

Posted on 02/18/2021 3:01:21 PM PST by Bearshouse

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to allegations that he flew to Cancun, Mexico, in the midst of record cold temperatures and snowfall in Texas—which has been besieged by power outages over the past several days.

Cruz appeared to confirm that he went to Cancun, saying that “with school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he said in a statement on Thursday, referring to the power outages and, in some cases, loss of water.

I can relate, I flew my daughter to Dallas once, just because I was too cautious to let her fly alone.

Not the way you do it Ted.

You send the family to Cancun...and you stay home to save your state.

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,”

Impossible. I was told he has no authority whatsoever in a state matter.

Sure, Ted. Texas and GOP presidential primary voters will be very understanding and sympathetic to your plight and struggle.

Was he supposed to show up to walk the power lines with a big wrench, hard hat, and high voltage suit?

Millions of dad’s in Texas want to be good dads too.
But they have no heat, water and probably food for their wife
and kids.
Nothing wrong with taking a vacation.
Just don’t do it when your State needs your voice.

Ted did it right.

Really...he does not run the utility companies etc etc and he's only gone for a day.

So your family comes 2nd??

Not a darn thing he could do to save his state. It's a "watch over" situation. You prefer photo opps?

Could have sent someone else to chaperone his daughters - like his wife. Just an unforced error.

Really? What’s he going to do? Is he going to crawl under a house and repair busted pipes, climb a pole and repair downed lines.

A lot of people saying this is ok.

Texas is a sh t show right now. Biggest reason is there is no leadership. There’s been five days of subfreeze with no Power, water, roads access to emergency resources. The aftermath will be another drawn out sh t show trying to get water pipes back in action, water damaged property, equipment.

That’s if hundreds of people are not found having died of hypothermia in their freezing snowed-in homes and apartments

The biggest hospital in town has Intermittently no running water

Cruz acted like a Shakespearean level tone deaf power figure here. It may get worse for him if the aftermath is very bad

He is so tone deaf its not funny

Let me reiterate that I would eschew either of my US Senators dropping by the grid unsupplied compound to give me a hug whilst I’m working on getting my lame emergency electricity supply hooked up to provide for minimum compound needs.

Is he governor? Is he supposed to go door to door with bottled water? Are these Americans incapable of taking care of themselves? Such drama.

I didn’t know Texans were so needy.

Cruz: “Hello FEMA, This is Ted Cruz.”

FEMA: “Yes, what do you need?”

Cruz: “I don’t know.”

FEMA: “Well who does know?”

Cruz: “The Governor and his emergency response team.”

FEAM: “Then why are we taking to you?”

Cruz: “Some Freepers wanted me to look busy for optics.”

“Biggest reason is there is no leadership”

Abbot and The State Legislature are your responsible organizations, NOT the US Senate.

I thought Texans knew how to buck up in the face of adversity.
