DES MOINES, Iowa – Two Iowa House subcommittees on Wednesday advanced resolutions calling for an Article V Convention of the States to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
Article V of the U.S. Constitution provides two ways to amend the Constitution; the first is for Congress to pass a constitutional amendment that would, the second is through two-thirds of state legislatures (34 states) petitioning for a convention to propose amendments. Whether by Congress or through a convention process, any amendments passed would require three-fourths of the states to ratify.
So far, 15 states – Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, and Utah – have had their state legislatures pass resolutions.

This will never happen.
Thanks for the ping.
As always, my reply is: “Let’s Roll!”
Imagine the mountains of gold that the world’s billionaires would throw to state legislators to completely put an end to our rights and hand them complete control of our country. For a hint, look at what the likes of Zuckerberg threw to Democrats and their poll workers in those critical areas of the 2020 election. The election fraud would look like nothing compared to what the world’s plutocrats and their puppets of the radical left would have in store for us.
And state legislators wouldn’t have any reason whatsoever to listen to us while imposing absolute slavery on us within a day. They could do whatever they wanted to our Constitution. They could, in effect, void it. They wouldn’t need votes any more. They would only need to do whatever the deranged oligarchs of the left commanded them to do. They could be the middlemen for the oligarchs of this planet for their rest of their lives.
Yeah, like snakes in the grass.. You can deal with them, but you've got to recognize them before they stab you in the back...
The number of issues needing to be addressed by such a convention are overwhelming, and a pitiful few will make it through by consensus. It will be like applying one or two bandaids to a severed artery.
The only path forward is secession.

You 4 guys views as expressed on this thread are similar to many other Freepers. I just want to take a couple minutes to express my thinking which MOSTLY contrasts to you guys collective thinking, to wit: # 1. Your argument, expressed without alternatives to the COS, is an argument, or in some cases just rebuke, to continue the status quo. I think MOST Freepers don’t want to continue the status quo and so far 15 state legislatures don’t either.
# 2, It takes 34 states to approve a convention and 38 to approve any single amendment. Imagine, if you will, trying to get your pet amendment passed by 38 states in both houses and signed by the Governor while bearing in mind that some of those states will necessarily have to be blue states. So, progressives “running away” is not possible or likely. I can say too that I think Texas would veto ANY nonsensical amendment DOA. Term Limits for Representatives and Senators and a balanced budget requirement (like many states including Texas) are worth the fight!
The only alternative argument I support is a halfway measure and that iss strong and AGRESSIVE nullification. Secession is just so adverse as to be the very, very, very last resort. We can corral, retard and contain the damn liberals without a Civil War...........in my humble opinion. Trump proved that.
My biggest gripe about secession is that if secession takes place by a number of states and even if there is no accompanying war there’s no guarantee the damn liberals won’t infiltrate us all again and then we are right back where we started with another mini secession or two.
We still have a significantly higher percentage of conservatives in the country so let’s wake up and get aggressive and control the liberal/marxist bastards via reclaiming states rights through STRONG NULLIFICATION (like South Dakota) backed up by physical force if it comes down to it. Also, we need Civics education and History back in our Public schools and NOT the Liberal/Marxist/Socialist model.
Remember what Lincoln said....”We the People are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who would pervert the Constitution”.
Start with repealing the 17th Amendment. Restore the Framers’ form of government.
Through disuse, We the People have surrendered our practical sovereignty to an oligarchy. There are no limits to their power. They stole the Presidential election from us and will only refine their nefarious arts these next few years. They will never let go.
Amendments can be repealed.
Outside of a COS or subsequent scotus decision, scotus decisions are untouchable and held in higher regard and obedience than the Constitution.
I’m amazed how the naysayers are certain of the outcome, the convention proposals of delegates from 50 distinct societies.
Delegates to the convention will have detailed commissions that describe the extent of their authority.
Nope.
The difference is that there wasn't a Constitution in place the first time, and there is one now.
The justification for the Convention to propose amendments is Article V. There was no Article V before.
If you think the Convention to propose amendments can just scrap the Constitution outright, then you must believe that they won't need to have any states ratify it, since ratification is in the Article V that was just scrapped?
Furthermore, how do you address the fact that the states are still sovereign governments? Do you believe that the legislatures of the several states would just sit back and let a Convention to propose amendments tell them that the Constitution has been voided and they are now in charge?
Since the states were sovereign governments that preexisted the Constitution, wouldn't scrapping the Constitution just revert the states back to individual sovereign governments? If the Convention for proposing amendments decides to ignore that Constitutional boundary on their powers and declare a new Constitution is now in force, what would behold the states to this new Constitution?
Even the first Constitution was submitted to the states for ratification. Are you suggesting that a new Constitution to replace the existing Constitution would not have ratification processes as well, and would be imposed on the sovereign states by Convention fiat?

Do you expect the COS to be a free-for-all?
Hyperbole much?
-PJ
Even the GOP has been infiltrated with leftist. Many who are loyal to the Chinese. What could go wrong?
If we are expected to believe that a Convention for proposing amendments will scrap the existing Constitution and turn us all into slaves, will that be one giant amendment or a series of singular smaller amendments? Won't the states have to ratify each proposed amendment one by one, each on its own merits?
What makes these doomsday naysayers think that the entire Constitution can be swept away en masse without one peep from the states, or the Congress, or the President, or We the People?
-PJ
When the oligarchs soon work around the Electoral College, an Article V COS will be the Framers' last remaining federal institution. And they can't touch it.
Freepers regularly complain about the government's disregard of 10th Amendment. Well, let's put it to forceful use and show the world that the states are legitimate participants in the government of their creation.
My gosh, how The Establishment and Deep State would cr@p their pants if the states sued Congress NOW to call a convention!
