Millions of Australians have been banned from viewing any news content on Facebook, after the tech giant decided to ban articles from its platform.
The move is in response to the proposed Media Bargaining law, which would force tech companies like Facebook and Google to negotiate with news providers to feature their content.
Facebook's decision means the nine million Australians who log into Facebook every day can no longer view any news whatsoever about their nation or anywhere else in the world - but can still read conspiracy theories, news from dictators and other extremist unsubstantiated views.

Over ten years of my own Facebook posts sharing news articles have vanished along with every comment attached to them.
Live by the FakeBook, die by the FakeBook. They should be regulated to avoid this kind of disruption and confusion.

I constantly hear references to 1984 and yet we seem to be in denial that we are going way beyond even 1984 and there seems nothing to stop it. It is easily suggested to just dump the social media and cut the cord to big tech but it seems that a good portion of Western Civilization is addicted to it and actually needs it so much that they accept the tech and government overlords tyranny.
It’s not about the one platform.
It’s about how easy it is for anything to be shut down.
Well, I don’t think anyone should get their news from Facebook, or Twitter, or any other social media platform.
This isn’t just about social media platforms.
If it can happen there, it can happen in a lot of other places.
Cut the cord. Facebook, Google, and Twitter are evil. Isn’t that plain?
For the good of everything, deplatform THEM.
This is not just about those platforms.
If this can happen on those platforms it can happen anywhere.
If it can happen to Australia, it can happen to other countries.
People need to stop thinking about these things as isolated incidents.
It is happening already in a lot of other places.

I made a FB account 3 years ago just to get my Daughters photo’s...I had Birthplace of Tobago,workplace somewhere in Nigeria...all ficticous...it stayed up until 3-4 months ago...I might have viewed it a total of 10 times ...totally useless app. I have never understood WHY people become so hooked on it . I loathe zuckerberg .... I consider him a very evil person.
This is good news! Anything dethroning Facebook is good. Facebook is propaganda. Google literally dropped their dont be evil motto.
It sucks in a way, but the path back to freedom is killing big tech.

We/I or don’t use FB, however in the past few weeks some of my gifs and other data used on FR for years and even a decade + have just disappeared into lost vapors. They were valid links up to the end of January, and who knows where they are now if even still around.
None were FB that I know of.
So now Aussies will understand the impact when the New York Post (the country’s *oldest* newspaper) broke the story about Hunter’s hard drive last October. Polls have shown that many people have said that if they had known about the hard drive they wouldn’t have voted for Biden.
