Hey, Christof, who’ll PAY for all this stuff? Who’ll install it and keep it maintained in every home and business?

I know a few people who are completely off the electric power grid. It’s not easy and it’s sure not cheap.

1) If we had a ton of local rooftop solar on homes and businesses and on solar carport parking lot structures AND storage batteries in those places, including in our homes, a lot more people would have power RIGHT NOW in Texas!

Hahahahahaha. Yeah. Cuz solar panels work at night and when they're on your second-story roof covered in snow.

On top of that, demand for heat increases at night or on cloudy days, when solar is bupkis. How good is that battery backup on the longer nights and cloudy days? Effin moron. Just like the idiot who told me her Tesla was solar powered. I asked when she charged it. She said "At night." Then I asked is she had battery backup. She said "No.l but that her extra solar production during the day went back the grid. I told her that what she sent back to the grid during the day was consumed during the day. Effing idiot.

That will be great when somebody has grid scale batteries that can be produced in the neccesary volume. One that might is Ambri with liquid metal batteries (been in development for about 10 years now). But they aren't there yet.

My guess would be heating equipment to keep it from freezing?

One of the reasons the commies like the electric-only solution is that, thanks to smart meters, they can turn off your power at will so those who rule stay warm while everyone else is an icicle.

6” of snow on a solar panel = no electricity.

Did he charge his EV car before the storm? The article says that you could use the car’s battery to power your home for a short time (or will be able to in the near future). Seems like a good idea if you have the equipment and can wait for the near future.

natural gas storage tanks would eliminate the problem.

Our town has ten propane storage tanks each holding 480,000 gal. During a natural gas shortage, they mix propane with natural gas to run the power generating turbines. This lessens the amount of natural gas they have to buy at elevated prices. We have had no power outages this week although we have been cautioned to reduce demand wherever possible.

I spent 10 + 40 days without power after the hurricanes of 2017.

ALL the solar farms, utility and private, and the windmills were blown to pieces. Rendered useless.

I made do with a little ol’ 2600 W gasoline Yamaha generator, enough for the fridge, entertainment and keeping things charged.

Couldn’t do much about the heat, though.

Bottom line: if you want to survive an event like this, get yourself, at a minimum, a 2,000 W portable generator. Mine runs for 15 hours on one tank.

My experience has been anyone with a hyphenated last name whose families are worth combined < 1 billion dollars is an automatic idiot.

SOLAR POWER + BATTERIES WOULD REDUCE TEXAS-TYPE POWER GRID PROBLEMS

To the right-wing folks who are INCORRECTLY claiming greening the grid caused the power outages in Texas: YOU ARE WRONG!

In other words........

Buy Our Stuff. We Promise It Will Work. You’ll Never Pay Another Power Bill For The Rest Of Your Life. Just Pay Us Instead So We Can Install Panels and Batteries That Cannot Be Recycled.

Don’t worry about all the damage done to the planet and environment due to the lithium mining. No big deal. As long as you buy our stuff.

Scouts Honor. I Promise.

One more thing.....don’t worry about the solar farms we are trying to sell and all the damage they do to the environment for the clear cutting and birds. No big deal. Just buy our stuff.

And don’t blame us solar panel folks for the fact that wind turbine blades cannot be recycled. Not our problem.

Green, Renewable Energy is the Bestest!!!!!!!
