White people and Asians that don’t play sports need to submit their scores if they are good. Everyone else is better off not submitting scores unless they are very good.

They are the best test and predictor of success given appropriate placement, using the scores.

Sorry but I don’t know what you mean “submitted scores”.

I was JUST thinking of this the other day.

Why has SAT been replaced by ACT?

My nieces several years ago did ACT. What? What is that?

The “scores” are TINY. What in the world can one devine from a small score range?

Maybe we didn’t need 1400 points as in SAT, but the scores of “18” and “19” seem ridiculous!

Can’t have tests which differentiate ability unless they involve basketball.

I wish we would concentrate on the test scores and forget entirely about race. What the test shows is how well people do on the test. Making any comparison to a race is not that much of the story. Looking at the rate of change of a race may be useful, but again its just one part of the person. And unless taking tests is the job they are seeking, it is not all that wise to elevate test taking too highly.

Many moons ago I went off to community college.

What did you get on the SAT?
I didn’t take it.
ACT?
I didn’t take it.
I’m not sure I know what to do.
Admit me and I will either pass or fail?
Okay

All three of my teen boys did better on their SATs (with no prep) than their GPAs would indicate. In one case, MUCH better.

It’s too bad the SAT is falling out of favor. Sometimes boys hate high school, are late bloomers, but thrive in college where they can study what they want to. (Like mine). SATs can reveal some “hidden” readiness for college.

I think they should just get rid of the SAT altogether. And that’s because the questions are getting really weird. Here’s one question that was on last year’s SAT:

They don’t submit their scores because they suck ass.

But they take the test.

State Uni’s still expect SAT’s or ACT’s as there are huge student populations and they use the tests for eventual class placement. However over the last decade more students are taking many subject specific AP exams... my daughter sat for ten, and many state schools offered her 40 plus credits while the private Uni’s expect them but will not award as much or often no credit. She was also admitted into schools that would have thought her SAT’s alone were too low even at(2150)

This is similar to the NY Regents exam situation. Those are standardized exams in the major courses taught in NY high schools to test for mastery. Whereas individual teachers can fake their own classes’ grades to make themselves have a higher passing rate, the Regents exams bring to light a student’s lack of accomplishment in that course. So, too, do these standardized entrance exams bring to light the level of college readiness (or lack thereof). Since presently black and Hispanic scores are on the average WAY lower than white and Asian scores, the source of this gross deficiency must be eliminated. Eliminate the tests and the lie that everyone is equal can continue to be promulgated. This is textbook libtardism. Do not eliminate the causes of the deficiency; eliminate the diagnostic tool which reveals its existence. No wonder the enemedia’s first priority is to write coverup stories rather than inform us of the news, their purported primary purpose.

This is “gaming” of the USNews rankings by the colleges.

The rankers use “average SAT scores” as one of the criteria in the rankings, but you only have to include the scores of people who submit scores.

By going “test optional” College A assures that people with GREAT scores keep submitting them, while people with NOT GREAT scores do not submit them any more. Hence the average goes up, higher than a similar school that is test-mandatory, but still has the same diversity goals.

We are now in the college selection process. “Because of Covid” many schools are now test optional. There is a difference between getting into college and succeeding in college. Scores aren’t needed because an increasing share of colleges have reduced their standards and added remedial courses.
However, scores and GPA are still the best indicator of success. You should submit your scores unless they are underwhelming, you qualify for significant financial aid, you are of preferential ethnicity, or someone is writing the check. ACT is more prevalent in our region and her scores translate to >1520s SAT so she is submitting them. It has been a bit of a red pill for her as she has seen less accomplished classmates accepted to “selective” schools without test scores but they are able to check different boxes.

Another stake in the heart of the mid- 20th century meritocracy project.

Today, outcome defines equality.
