A recent Gallup poll indicates that a higher percentage of Americans than ever before prefer the formation of a legitimate, national third party. In the latest survey, just 33% of Americans say they are satisfied with the current two-party system. With 5% undecided, that means an all-time record 62% want to see a viable third option.
While some political experts believe the increasing polarization of Republicans and Democrats is what has led to such a dramatic surge of third-party interest, it seems former President Donald Trump's passing reference to forming his own "MAGA" party has generated a significant rise in Republican support for a new alternative.
"Currently, 68% of Republicans prefer that Trump remain the party leader, while 31% want the party to have a new leader," the Gallup poll revealed. "Republican-leaning independents, however, are divided, with 47% wanting Trump to continue leading and 51% preferring a new voice. Republicans' preferences for a third party are similar among those who want Trump to continue to lead the party and among those who prefer a new leader."
Ruh Roh!
‘Viable’ - there is the key issue.
We have a winner take all system.
Formation of a new ‘viable’ party means the death of one or both of the older parties.
The electoral college system is exceedingly unfit for multiple competing parties. In 1860, there were 4 ‘viable’ parties.
Polls are one thing (if they can be believed, and they can’t), but actually putting a third party into effect is a totally different beast.
After one election cycle, when no third party candidate has one and no jobs are distributed and no agenda is implemented, the party #s historically sink. Between 4-year election cycles, both the Reforms and the Populists saw their voter turnout drop 50%, and they were gone by the next election after that.
Trump needs to Grab this opportunity and run with it. The time will never be better and the window will be open only a short time. It’s probably our last chance.
Now see how many people want a different COUNTRY! At least two votes in my household, but many more if we let our Fulton County GA officials do the tabulating!
The GOP agenda is the opposite of MAGA.
For 30 years they have been making America into North Mexico.
If 62% want it, isn’t it automatically viable? Not necessarily. Some of that 62% might want a dem party that’s even more communist. Some might want a new party that is all RINO, no conservatives. Some most certainly do want a new party that is MAGA with zero percent gloablist hacks (I’d sign up tomorrow!).
This news is going to make the Republicans Loyalists, very, very angry.
Sign me up. I am done with the GOPe. The turtle and speech this weekend did it for me.
From now on, I only vote for the candidate I like and not the party.
Works for me
I am already disassiciated from both , entirely
Imagine what it might be like to have a party that actually stands for something and fights for it. Imagine how it might feel to look forward to voting for principled people?
The GOP is a fake party. A new conservative party is the only hope we have IMO.
Ross Perot happened nearly 30 years ago and since that time the Republican party has openly turned against it base and Trump to a very large part. Maybe you can recognize the positions the GOP is willing to fight for, save taxes, but I can’t.
Totally agree.
Let’s just stay with Uniparty (R) and Uniparty (D). This “two party” system is working so well. What do we have to lose?
The GOP agenda is the opposite of MAGA.
***************
THAT is an undeniable fact. The GOP’s agenda is fundamentally one that promotes bigger government. We need just the opposite.
Most of them Democrats?
That’s who benefits most.
LOL! Continuing to vote for people who consistently betray you and stab you in the back is really hard to understand. Its something akin to suffering from battered wife syndrome.
If it is viable, the new entity will not be a “third party”. It will quickly replace one or the other of the two major parties, or force those two major parties to merge into one in fact and in function.
Calling it “America First Republican Party”, capitalizes on its origins within the framework of the existing Republican party, while distinguishing its mission and objectives from the old GOP establishment faction.
Midwifing the birth of this party depends a lot on quickness and dexterity in organization, and providing a profoundly different message than has been customary for the GOP establishment.
I’m not convinced a Trump-led third party could win nationally; BUT, the worthless ruling class Republican party could not possibly win the presidency if Trump did this.
I would like to see President Trump continue hinting at the possibility and keep the ruling class very nervous.
