Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.”
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.
Cassidy is one of seven Republicans who was convinced by the House managers' arguments and voted to convict Trump in a 57-43 vote.
Cassidy was joined by fellow Republican colleagues Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.).
Cassidy’s decision was a surprise to some after he was seen on Friday with a statement that showed support for Trump’s acquittal, but his communications director stated that Cassidy had drafted two statements, one for and against Trump’s conviction.
Cassidy has previously said that that the House Managers had “done very well” with their arguments for Trump’s guilt.
However, the arguments fell short as conviction would have required 17 Republicans to side with the Democrats.
Since Trump was not convicted, he is allowed to run for a political office again. He has made clear he will stay involved in the political realm, but it is not clear what his future plans are with the Republican party.
Its a shame the Corndogs are stuck with this A-hole for the next 6 years.
OMG God I love you Freepers. I almost spit out my dinner ROFL
How the heck is he elected in Louisiana?

Sadly can’t be recalled
.......if I was a patient of Senator Cassidy’s I would find another Doc thinking this guy is too stupid to give me medical advice!
Any FReepers who support “candidates who can win” (ie acceptable to the establishment)...this is what you get.
We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the vote today by Sen. Cassidy to convict former President Trump. Fortunately, clearer heads prevailed and President Trump has been acquitted of the impeachment charge filed against him.... — Republican Party of Louisiana (@LAGOP) February 13, 2021
Not federal office holders. The Constitution provides that Senators are elected for a six-year term, and that only the Senate can expel one of its members.
This POS just got reelected in 2020. Every one of his tv ads touted his respect for veterans or his close association with and support for President Trump. Louisianians will demand that he resign, but they can’t make him. Perhaps they can come up with a game plan the will make him wish he had for the next six years.
The Constitution obviously was not taught in some of these idiot Senators schools.
It was said, over and over, that our government wasn’t after President Trump, they were after us, and that President Trump was just in the way.
Well President Trump isn’t in the way anymore.
It’s just us now.
“And you’re toast.”
He was reelected in 2020. He may be toast but he’ll have a Senate seat and be voting for 6 years.
I wonder if he’s a pedo. Seems to be a trait these people share.
You sorry arsed LIAR!! You were offered a bribe and you took it......I’d be willing to bet on it. Louisianans should be outraged!

You know what to do, Louisiana.
