Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.”
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.
Cassidy is one of seven Republicans who was convinced by the House managers' arguments and voted to convict Trump in a 57-43 vote.
Cassidy was joined by fellow Republican colleagues Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.).
Cassidy’s decision was a surprise to some after he was seen on Friday with a statement that showed support for Trump’s acquittal, but his communications director stated that Cassidy had drafted two statements, one for and against Trump’s conviction.
Cassidy has previously said that that the House Managers had “done very well” with their arguments for Trump’s guilt.
However, the arguments fell short as conviction would have required 17 Republicans to side with the Democrats.
Since Trump was not convicted, he is allowed to run for a political office again. He has made clear he will stay involved in the political realm, but it is not clear what his future plans are with the Republican party.
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person.”
*************
If he had ANY respect for the Constitution he would be against this unlawful farce and affront to the law abiding citizens of his state.
I hope this comes back to bite him.
Moron.
OK....who has the goods on him??? someone does.
Banish to nether regions
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate
Senator Cassidy voted because he failed at his obligation to remove the fraudulent impeachment from the Senate because the Senate has no authority to impeach President Trump.
THE GOP WILL PAY A HEAVY PRICE, HOPE THEY HAVE SOME JOB SKILLS OUT THERE
BITCH CASSIDY and the SUNDOWNER KIDS! RETIRE ALREADY you old coots!
That was my add-on, but it is from the Cloward-Piven strategy. It been used regularly against many people to hound them into submission.
You are automatically guilty once you are accused and punishment should swiftly follow. A trial is not necessary but is, at most, a formality on the way to the gallows.
that me putting him to rights. he was using a veiled Cloward-Piven strategy by his own words.
And a terrible politician. He should rot in hell for this.
What a disgrace to the fine people of LA. He’s finished as a politician and he ought to consider moving the hell out because he is a traitorous scum bag.
Yeah in 2026. Yeah us.
Richard Burr (NC) - 2022
Lisa Murkowski (AK) - 2022
Patrick Toomey (PA) - 2022
Burr and Toomey are retiring.
@ post 67 - thanks for the grin! cheers
Cassidy could have opted out.
He willingly attacked our Constitution.
Coward.
What you get when you combine Bryan Adams, Henry Rollins and a retard
Benedict Arnold was a good general. Actually, he was Washington’s best general. Until he became a traitor.
Cassidy will NOT be running for re-election in 2026 - AS A REPUBLICAN!!
Remove him.
