As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urge that schools open, many teachers unions are saying no.
“Amidst a global pandemic, the likes of which none of us has ever seen, the school district is hellbent on forcing thousands of educators into unsafe school buildings held together, in some places quite literally, by duct tape,” Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Jerry T. Jordan said in response to his city’s push to reopen buildings that have been closed for about a year, The Washington Post reported.
Teachers there took to the streets in protest rather than go back to the classroom, according to Bloomberg.
But the CDC, in a 35-page report that spells out how schools can be made safe, says opening them up should be a priority.
“It is critical for schools to open as safely and as soon as possible, and remain open, to achieve the benefits of in-person learning and key support services. To enable schools to open safely and remain open, it is important to adopt and consistently implement actions to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2 both in schools and in the community,” the CDC wrote in the document issued Friday.

“K–12 schools should be the last settings to close after all other mitigation measures in the community have been employed, and the first to reopen when they can do so safely. Schools should be prioritized for reopening and remaining open for in-person instruction over nonessential businesses and activities,” the report said.
The CDC added that closing schools hurts the most vulnerable children the hardest.
“The absence of in-person educational options may disadvantage children from low-resourced communities, which may include large representation of racial and ethnic minority groups, English learners, and students with disabilities...

This is because the Democrat politicians just polled Democrats and found out that ‘off the record’ Democrats want the schools open and suddenly the CDC finds it is critical to be open. Funny how that works.
Well the CDC seems to think that they can dictate what people can do on public transportation, why dont they dictate to the teachers unions to get back to work.

Personally, I don’t see why children should be subjected to the toxic environment that is public schools.
There must be a better way to educate children without subjecting them to the bullying and the indoctrination that are endemic in public schools.

Around here litterally billions of dollars have been spent tearing down perfectly good schools and building new schools. Our property taxes have trippled in the last 15 years. I wish we lived in a place where the schools were duct taped together. It would be good for the kids to learn how to make do with what is available. The kids and teachers around here are so spoiled and have no idea how to get by without the latest expensive new stuff .

The schools could have remained open the whole time. It wasn’t the federal government that ordered schools closed, it was state government.
The feds do not have the authority to order the schools in the states closed. Only each individual state can do that as long as they close all the schools in this case using health protection. 14th amendment protects only racial barriers in Brown vs. The Board of Education in Topeka, KS, in 1954. And that is the only reference the feds have for schools.
