Larry Flynt — the notorious porn peddler who built a smut empire out of his “Hustler” magazine and fashioned himself into a champion of the First Amendment — died on Wednesday. He was 78. Flynt, whose death was first reported by TMZ, had suffered from a slew of health problems since a 1978 murder attempt that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
The controversial mogul and self-described First Amendment champion was known for challenging the establishement and his myriad legal battles involving free speech and pornography regulations.
He often clashed with feminist groups and the religious right, and was once sued by televangelist the Rev. Jerry Falwell in a case that made it to the US Supreme Court.
Flynt was portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the Oscar-nominated 1996 film, “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” which chronicled the pornographer’s life, including his court clash with Falwell.

He went from famous to infamous when he published some nude photos of Jacqueline Kennedy that had been taken by a paparazzi. The images created a major scandal and Flynt became a millionaire.
In 1976 he was prosecuted on charges of obscenity and organized crime by the leader of an anti-pornography committee. Although he was given a sentence of seven to twenty five years, he only spent six days in prison. Upon revising the accusations thoroughly, the judge realized he was no culprit of crime, and his case remained faithful to the Constitution’s First Amendment: freedom of expression.
Two years after that, the shooting that left him paralyzed took place. Flynt was on his way to the court to defend his magazine when a white supremacist shot him for publishing images of an interracial couple. From that moment on, he was unable to walk.

He won’t be missed. I just looked up Bob Guccione to see if he has managed to evade his inevitable appointment with Satan and, lo and behold, rigor mortis set in ten years ago.
I don’t judge the man’s soul but his Earthly existence certainly took him down the evil paths.
His magazine did not portray women as beautiful but as skanky, greasy, and unattractive even as porn goes. His main cartoonist produced sick cartoons about guys exposing themselves to little girls and the cartoonist later was arrested for imitating his art (Chester the Molester). Women hater’s liked his magazine but Flynt was part of the great Leftist coalition that backed ERA and every “woman’s lib” program.
Is that the dog he poisoned in the bunker to make sure that it really was poison his entourage offered him and not just a mickey to merely knock him out to be turned over alive to the Allies?
