‘Angel Mom’ Says Biden Creating ‘Super Highway’ to Border

An Arizona mother whose son was killed by an illegal alien said the Biden administration’s border policies are “absolutely” going to create more “angel families.”

Angel families are relatives of those who have been killed by an illegal immigrant.

“That’s the saddest thing to me of all,” Mary Ann Mendoza told The Epoch Times on Feb. 8. “I’ve been speaking out on this for 5 1/2 years now.”

Mendoza’s son, Brandon, was killed in a 2014 car crash caused by an illegal immigrant who was drunk, high on meth, and speeding along a Mesa, Arizona, highway in the wrong direction. Brandon, a sergeant on the Mesa police force, was 32 years old.

“Biden decides he’s going to open our borders, and every one of our lives are in jeopardy,” she said. “It’s just going to be a super highway now.”

President Joe Biden has issued executive orders to stop border wall construction, stop the Remain in Mexico program—which will restart the practice of “catch-and-release”—and pause deportations, among other actions.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said at a Feb. 8 press briefing that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) won’t be prioritizing the deportation of illegal aliens who are charged with driving under the influence (DUI) or assault.

“The priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are posing a national security threat; of course, a public safety threat; and on recent arrivals,” Psaki said. “Nobody is saying that DUIs or assault are acceptable behavior, and those arrested for such activities should be tried and sentenced as appropriate by local law enforcement. But we’re talking about the prioritization of who is going to be deported from the country.”

One of the other things rarely mentioned is that strengthening the border protects Mexicans and other would-be illegal immigrants as well.

There was a thread today about a horrible 911 call received somewhere in the Southwest from a group of 80 people locked in the back of a tractor trailer, being smuggled into the US. They were out of oxygen, they couldn’t get out, and they were screaming and crying...but so far, the police haven’t been able to find the truck, although they have a photo of it where it went through one point where there were cameras on the highway.

The phone call was heartbreaking.

The same thing also happened a few years ago, IIRC, before Trump’s time, and one of the things that Trump said was that fortifying the border also prevents these “coyotes” from smuggling people in and having horrible events like this. People are less likely to try to get into the country illegally if it’s difficult, hence the coyotes don’t have customers and tragedies like this won’t happen.

It’s only taken - what, two weeks? - for things to go back to all the bad stuff that Trump was trying to prevent, the “kids in cages” and the ruthless exploitation of gullible, poor people by criminal gangs.

Biden has given a shot in the arm to the people-smuggling business and the gangs of Mexico.

The Latest: Mexico hits another record for COVID-19 cases.

Mexico posted a record spike in coronavirus cases on Friday, with 21,366 newly confirmed infections, about double the daily rate of increase just a week ago. The country also recorded 1,106 more deaths.

It was unclear if the spike was due to the presence of the U.K. virus variant, of which only one case has so far been confirmed in a visiting British citizen.

The country has now seen almost 1.61 million total infections and has seen registered over 139,000 deaths so far in the pandemic.

The country’s extremely low testing rate means that is an undercount, and official estimates suggest the real death toll is closer to 195,000. So little testing is done that 8% of all those who got a test later died during recent weeks; normally, only people with severe symptoms are tested.

Canada considers a DUI a felony also. They will turn you away at the border if you have one. I almost got turned away because my girlfriend at the time was an Israeli Jew, despite both of us having a clean arrest record and no ties to organized crime/terrorism.
