Will American Ideas Tear France Apart? Some Think So.
NY Times ^ | February 9, 2021 | Norimitsu Onishi

The threat is said to be existential. It fuels secessionism. Gnaws at national unity. Abets Islamism. Attacks France’s intellectual and cultural heritage.

The threat? “Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States,’’ said President Emmanuel Macron.

French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society. “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities,’’ warned Mr. Macron’s education minister.

Emboldened by these comments, prominent intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.

“..warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society.”

They are undermining our society too.

“Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States”

Slow down there Frenchie. Post-modernism was exported FROM France to the USA, we have just re-packaged it and sold it back to you!

What do you find moronic? I haven’t read the full article, but this excerpt is absolutely astonishing for the NYT. It’s about the horrific American ideas of “woke” and attendant cancel culture destroying France. The logical conclusion is that, if this out of control leftism can destroy France, it must be doing the same thing to the USA.

These “wrighters” and “jornolists” are all graduates of eastern elite and elitist universities, which teach diversity of physical or psychological factors but not of intellectual challenges. So their apparent moronic reports and conclusions are acquired, not a factor of genetic heritage.

Pity them, but not so much you cannot scorn them as well when needed.

Ironic, isn’t it? “Woke” and “cancel culture” can destroy France, but NOT the USA?

Why is the NYT publishing this? Is it an Op Ed?

It seems to make sense to me. I’m shocked that the NY Times would be willing to call out the destruction that is being caused by the woke left.

If you read the article, you will see that France...for all its faults...does not compile racial statistics....and focuses on one French culture...as opposed to woke multiculturalism. That seems like a step in the right direction.

Disgusting.

These communist anti-American traitors are so taking over our country that THEY become known as “American” in ideals.

Good God.

Interesting article. I hope France prevents the progressive marxist cancer of race divisions that have infected the US. It’s horrible.

I’ve visited France 5 times in my lifetime. Even until the last time which was 3 years ago, there is no such thing as “press 1 for another language other than French”. They speak English as a “courtesy” to you, but it annoys them believe me. Same thing applies if you visit Montreal. But you go deeper into Quebec City, don’t even try because f the French-first or only policy.

The German Frankfort school gave us Neo-Marxism, and the French gave us post-modernism and “deconstructionism.”

And now they don’t want it back??

<< But far from being American, many of the leading thinkers behind theories on gender, race, post-colonialism and queer theory came from France >>

Yup. If anything, we should be blaming THEM for the woke scourge they’ve unleashed on the West. But there’s plenty of blame to go around.
