2021 Super Bowl score: Tom Brady wins seventh ring as Buccaneers dominate Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are Super Bowl LV champions after completing a victory that exceeded expectations and made all kinds of history on Sunday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. In dominating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9, the Bucs won its second Super Bowl and became the first team to win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Quarterback Tom Brady secured his seventh Lombardi Trophy, two more than any player in NFL history and one more than any entire NFL franchise has achieved.

Brady's performance at age 43 was nearly flawless, and the suffocating pressure of Todd Bowles' defense was a perfect compliment to the offense's effort. The future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback completed 21 of 29 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair to his long-time favorite target in tight end Rob Gronkowski and another to wide receiver Antonio Brown. He calmly distributed the ball to his cadre of pass catchers and was especially successful over the middle. Brady and Gronk now have 14 postseason scoring connections in their legendary careers.

The Bucs forced the Chiefs into their worst offensive performance of the Patrick Mahomes era as Tampa Bay's defensive front completely controlled the line of scrimmage through all four quarters. Mahomes was under siege all night, alternately firing the ball into the ground and having to tuck and scamper away from the relentless pressure. Mahomes took three sacks and threw two interceptions on tipped passes. Even those figures undersell the degree to which the Bucs made his life miserable. He ended the night with 270 yards passing, much of which game in garbage time, while being held without a touchdown for just the second time in 56 games since taking over KC's starting job in 2018.

We need a reset back to the original purpose of the halftime show.

1973 theme, “Happiness is”

I would have selected a different opening song.

I understood the KC starting tackles where out of action.

Still, the KC defensive line did not stop Brady

Once again the playoff games were better than the over hyped Super Bowl. The best thing about last night was all the good food at our house.

Pressure and stress are presented to every player.

Folks like Tom and President Trump confront adversity and look for ways to succeed, rather than choke like a dog.

A very rare human attribute

Seemingly and possible.

Well then, in todays cancel culture, that’s a lock.

Much better that 10 independent direct eye witnesses

@_SJPeace....G.O.A.T. was created as an acronym by the wife of late boxer and Civil Rights Icon Muhammad Ali....

Thanks, Skippy, confirmation that smear against Tom came from a certified insane person.

Nfl secret rules commitee granted an initial 21 point “headstart” affirmative action points for having a QB of color.

He's half-black, so he only got 10.5 points.

I never saw that ...

In '73 I was hip-eyeing around the country, sex, drugs and rock and roll ...

However ... the history of America in 72 and 73 would justify the Andy Williams focus.

Don't forget, we're looking NOW through the conditioned eyes of the 2,020's and not the 1970's

The focus was on the singer (or the short dresses of the backups) and not the picture drawing band (as I suggested before)

“Rope”. Thanks. Couldn’t possibly have gotten through the day without that correction.

Did Brady kneel? Did the halftime show suck as usual? I didn’t watch the game, the preshows, the commercials, nada.

No, Yes. I'm glad Brady beat Mahomes, Patrick's parents are Pat Mahomes Sr. and Randi Martin. His mother is white and his father is Black. The media is trying to champion him because of his skin color, I hate that.

You seem to forget that there are 10 other players on the field other than the quarterback.
There is also an entire defensive squad and special teams squad that also suits up for the game.

Each of the instances you listed had primarily to do with great defensive play making by Patriot defensive players. If is was not for Malcom Butler’s great jump on the Seahawk’s QB throw they would have lost that game. If it was not hte fact that the Pats defense completely shut down the Falcon’s offense in the second half, the Pats offense would not have come from behind to win.

Last night, Tampa Bay totally dominated the line of scrimmage on both defense and offense. The Bucs ran the ball down KC throat. This allows for the play action passes that then got major yardage. In addition the Bucs double teamed Hill and Kelce basically taking them out of the game for the most part. They also forced Mahomes to scramble left instead of right making it much more difficult to throw on the run.

DEFENSES WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Yes, Brady played a good game. They finally threw the ball to Gronk and Brown.
The real winner of last nights game was the Tampa Bay defense and defensive coaches. They kept the best offense in the league to no touchdowns.

Let me also remind you that the reason Brady won several championships with the Pats(especially the first two) was because the Pats had the best defense in the NFL primarily put together by, dare I say BILL.

The best defense has won the championship just as many times if not more than the best offense. A few examples are: Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay’s first win, Denver’s win with Peyton, the Giants wins, the most recent Steelers win, etc.

Actually, the Pats offered Brady $20 million/year for 2 years.
Brady signed with ONLY team that offered him $30 million/year for two years.

Well worth it. New England made a mistake and Bellicheck is the one who should retire.t

What we’re seeing with Brady will be the new trend of QBs going to other teams, and recruiting other players to join them.

Stafford is the next one to try this now that he’s in LA, I think you will see it in the next few years with other high-profile QBs who will use their star power to attract other players.

Should have had another TD. Got stopped on the one.

Greatest of all time. His achievements, now with two different teams and at his age, make him a marvel. Could he have thrown some of those passes Mahomes did? Flying literally horizontal, 30 yards, on the money? No.

But Brady went something like 16/20 in one stretch and in most cases the ball was out of his hand in ONE SECOND. On the one read that Romo showed, he knew where he was going before the snap, he looked at the defender’s hips, and the split second the defender’s hips turned he threw to the other side of the guy, on the money. He can probably still do this for 2-3 more years, like George Blanda did when he was 46.

I am glad Brady and the Bucs won.
I believe you a missing my point.

Brady had wanted to leave the Pats for the two previous years.
The Pats tried to trade him and nobody wanted him. It was not up to Bellichick. Kraft writes the checks. Brady wanted to leave.

Every other NFL franchise had a chance to sign Brady for $30 million for 2 years. He really wanted to got to San Francisco(where he is from). They decided to keep Jimmy G instead. Cleveland decided to draft Baker Mayfield instead of trading for Gronk and Brady. Bill wanted Mayfield.

Brady fit Tampa very well. They had a great defensive team without a QB. Now, they look really smart. How come all the other teams did not want a 43 year old QB?

Should have been more clear - the Pats did not feel Brady was worth the higher amount that Tampa Bay offered. I bet the 7-9 Patriots are wishing they ponied up that $10 million extra.

Anyway, if I recall, early in Brady's career, he would often take less salary than what the market would otherwise pay him to help the Pats stay under the salary cap (and afford to put better players around him).

I'm thinking Brady took the higher offer this time not so much for the extra money but just to prove that he can win with another team. Nobody can claim that Coach Belichick was solely responsible for Brady's SB runs any longer.

I am glad affirmative action systemic racism is alive but it did not prevent black athletes from reaching their potential in the NFL and NBA.

No problem, I think the franchise was moving on from Brady which is why prior to free agency he may have been interested in a trade. But he hung in there even though they were more focused on future rebuilding than keeping him. He made a good move, as did Tampa. Like you said, it was a good fit.
