I know of dozens of cases where people have been convicted of obstruction for lying to cops, often on the word of an informant witness who the defendant claimed was lying. Providing excellent witnesses who were there at the time of the boat accident if it really happened. That’s one way. But often there may be no way, which case you are screwed when the police come up with a witness who says he saw you shooting them a week ago because he’s trying to work off his case. Don’t answer questions.
